Meeting on new Explorer Post at High School

A General Vocations Explorer Post is forming with the High School PTO sponsorship. An introductory meeting at 8 p.m. Monday in room 36 invites interested boys and girls and requires a parent or both parents for the first session. The post will study about a dozen professions and meet twice monthly.

Girl Scout Troop Sends Clothes to Viet Nam Orphans

Troop 443 of the Girl Scouts collected clothing for Vietnamese orphans and planned Christmas cards for servicemen without mail. Postage costs were covered by local clubs and businesses, including the Rotary Club and Nicholson Motorcycle Sales.

Youth Arrested After High Speed Chase Ends in Crash

Duane Strieter an 18 year old of 5186 Austin Road was arraigned in Ann Arbor Municipal Court on a fleeing from a police officer charge after a high speed chase that reached 120 mph on Michigan Avenue. His 1968 Dodge, driven two days, crashed on Weber Road injuring no one. Strieter also received a speeding ticket for 65 mph in an 85 mph zone. Examination on the fleeing charge is set for November 22 with bond set at $50.

First Snow Contest Officially Ends in Saline Blizzard

Judges declared the First Snow Contest officially ended as a blizzard deposited a solid white blanket of snow in Saline at 4 p.m. Winners from all sponsoring merchants contests and the grand prize of 50 dollars will be announced next week.

Area Social Service Elects New Officers

Mrs. Eugene Garrison is re elected president of Saline Area Social Services Inc with Mrs. Kenneth Thompson as vice president. Other officers include Mrs. Gerald Meyer treasurer Mrs. Richard Cole secretary and Mrs. John Proctor transportation chairman. New members are Rev. Herbert Reed Mrs. Arthur Singleton Mrs. Charles and Mrs. Cole. The group plans Christmas boxes for needy families and asks for toys clothing non perishable foods and gifts for shut ins donations may be left at 300 E Henry St by December 1.

375 Youths Attend County Government Day

Washtenaw County hosts Government Day with 375 high school students from all districts except Chelsea visiting county offices. Sponsored by the American Legion, lunch for attendees was provided by the Ann Arbor Legion Auxiliary with Saline Legion members present and Saline seniors named.

Union Thanksgiving Service Planned by Saline Churches

Nearly all Saline churches will take part in a Union Thanksgiving service at 7 30 p m Wednesday November 22 at St Paul United Church of Christ The Rev Robert Muirhead will deliver the sermon Music will be by the St Paul senior choir and Leon Morton soloist Churches taking part include St Paul Faith Lutheran Presbyterian Methodist Saline Baptist First Baptist Assembly of God and Church of the Nazarene with others invited and the public welcome.

Girl Scouts Offer Bake by Order in Saline

Ford Gift and Employee Pledges Boost Saline United Fund

Saline area United Fund totals reached 30108.40 this week surpassing the 23724 goal though reports were incomplete. Ford Motor Co corporate gift and pledges led at 22802.84 with industrial contributions at 25292.84 and residential giving 3153.56.

Building Permits for 40 Apartments Approved on Clark St

The city approved building permits for a 40 unit project eight five unit buildings on Clark Street with an estimated cost of 405000. Developer Eugene G Holly plans the project adjacent to existing properties on Clark Street and site work includes blacktopped driveways a construction barrier and cast iron manhole covers. City officials say violations of ordinances have been corrected.

Kiwanis Send Christmas Boxes to Viet Nam Servicemen

Kiwanis members and Kiwanis Queens after a packing session mailed about 25 Christmas boxes to local service members in Viet Nam and environs. Most recipients are local servicemen.

Car Wash Raises $100 for United Fund

A Sunday car wash sponsored by the Jaycees raised 100 dollars for the United Fund Drive. A crew of 14 to 18 Jaycees worked a six hour shift at the Saline Car Wash on Michigan Ave.
