Two star halfbacks were reported recovering after injuries in the Saline Chelsea title game Friday. Gayle Finkbeiner underwent exploratory surgery for torn ligaments and cartilage and remains hospitalized with a cast expected for six to seven weeks. Chelsea halfback Dudley Holmes suffered a brain concussion, was treated at Saline hospital, then released, and Gayle visited him before leaving.

Three Hornet Players Injured In Twin Accidents
Three local young men suffered injuries in two accidents this week. Dick Leidheiser and Wes Armbruster of the Hornet football squad were treated at Ridgewood Osteopathic hospital for neck and back injuries after the car they rode in was rear ended on Macon road. Teammate David Seeger was driving and assisted a stranded motorist when another car struck his vehicle driven by Ralph Smith. Stanley P. Kind, 20, of Jordan Road, was treated at Saline Community hospital for facial lacerations and bruises after his car, traveling about 75 mph, left the road and hit a tree. the car was a total wreck.

Driver Killed When Auto Hits Train Near Plymouth
Frederick P Bernhardt 31 a Saline resident and Clinton school teacher was killed instantly when his car slammed into a moving freight train at the Co A O crossing near Plymouth. He had taught in Clinton Ypsilanti Howell Pinckney and San Diego and was valedictorian of Northville High School class of 1950. Survived by widow Barbara three sons a brother and his parents the funeral was held in Northville.
