County panel to study ambulance subsidy costs

Ways and Means Committee of the Washtenaw County Board of Supervisors will hear a report estimating annual subsidy costs for a professional ambulance service at about 75 000 dollars. A county wide ambulance shortage and possible helicopter support by Superior Ambulance Service are under review amid plans with several local officials. Rotary group funds Saline shelter for Curtiss Park project

Rotary donors and the Saline chapter voted to contribute 500 toward a 700 fifty by sixty foot cement shelter at Curtiss Park. Jaycees plan the rustic structure with rough cut lumber and a wood shake roof. University of Michigan architectural students provided park plans in a two year old contest. The shelter will sit on the west riverbank and a footbridge across the river is planned for this summer.

Temporary classrooms arrive at Houghton School

Four fully equipped temporary classrooms arrive at Houghton School to be set on cement piers, housing about 120 students. Superintendent Harold Hintz says grades to use them are undecided. The units include restrooms, electric heat, and drinking fountains and will be used for two to three years until a new high school is built.
