Armond the police dog sparks Saline council controversy
A Saline City Council meeting approved a $1000 transfer from the civil defense fund to train Armond the police dog, owned by Officer Bob Russell. State Labor Mediation Board charges allege favoritism and unfair labor practices related to the dog’s scholarship and scheduling. Armond has been trained at Plymouth K 9 School and has five arrests to date. Memorial Day upkeep at Oakwood Cemetery is led by Grace Carter and Davis Toth with DPW support.

Saline Area Schools set 9.35 millage for June 8 election
The Saline Board of Education, after weeks waiting on the State School Aid Bill, set 9.35 mills for the June 8 school election and reduced the debt millage to 7.00 mills. Total millage drops from 30.41 to 27.57 mills though reassessment may keep taxes up. A public millage meeting is scheduled for June 1 at 8 p.m. in the High School Library.

Saline schools music week showcases four concerts
Saline students stage a week of free concerts across four schools led by Malcolm Danforth and Doris Kraushaar. The schedule opens tonight with the 106 piece High School Band and a seven piece Dixieland group in a Pop Concert at the High School gym. Next Wednesday features the Houghton School Chorus and 5th and 6th Grade Bands with the Dixieland group in the Houghton Gym, followed by a Jensen gym program with Miss Margaret Phillips directing the Jensen Chorus and Danforth leading the bands and Dixielanders. Friday sees the Junior High Band’s first public performance directed by Danforth for the whole school and visiting parents.

Saline BPW Elects 1970 Officers at Meet
Jean Taylor was named president of the Saline Business and Professional Women's Club at a last week gathering at Clara Fausts home. Other officers named are Margaret McDougall vice president Geraldine Chantelois secretary and Luella Lambarth treasurer Installations set for June 17 at Ruth Hagens home with Miss Jeanette Merriman District 8 director conducting. All members urged to attend. Plans for the 1970 Saline Fair will be discussed.

Saline Poppy Sale Sets Record Receipts
Saline Legion Auxiliary volunteers and helpers completed a three day Poppy Sale raising 693.78 dollars, topping the 1969 high of 617. Co chairs Harriet Lake and Gwen Armbruster praised workers and noted involvement of Legion members and Junior Auxiliary girls. The drive included a 6 am Ford plant shift sweep to cover transitions and honored Erwin Schmid for office space in the Still Building.
