Critical condition teen after Saline crash near church
Robert Greenfield 17 remained listed in critical condition at Saline Community Hospital after a Sunday 5:20 p.m. crash on East Michigan Avenue. He lost control, struck a parking meter, and collided with Trinity Lutheran Church, undergoing seven hours of surgery. the car was unofficially a total loss.

Saline High to stage record 172 graduates this Sunday
Saline High School will hold its 102nd commencement with about 172 seniors marching to receive diplomas from Superintendent Harold Hintz and School Board President Raymond Gibrack. The ceremony may be indoors if weather turns, with 2000 seating in the gym. Darrell B. Thomas of Western Michigan University will deliver the address on The Value of One.

Alumni President Bill Taylor reports more than 2,000 invitations mailed for the June 13 reunion at Saline High. Ted Stimpson of the Class of 1920 heads planning for the 50-year group. The banquet starts at 7 p.m. and is served by the Methodist W.S.C. A Mary Sue Wahl forensics program will be featured.

Summer Cagers Start Summer Basketball For Saline
Saline high school launches a summer basketball program with freshman jayvee and varsity workouts starting this week. The Hornet varsity joins a summer league with Ann Arbor Pioneer and Huron plus Lincoln Dexter Milan South Lyon Ypsi for 14 games starting June 15. Practices run 7 p m Mondays and Wednesdays with free admission and open spectator policy.

Saline Police reported a pair of men’s bifocal prescription glasses with horn rims found and turned in at headquarters. The owner may claim them there.
Athletic Boosters Invite Saline Meeting At High School

Saline approves tight 11 mill budget and 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. no parking
Saline City Council adopted a $969 150 budget for the year after trimming from 1 012 050 with transfers counted as internal. The vote followed hours of debate and an 11 mill levy while traffic orders imposed a two week grace period before no parking on streets 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Signs will go up citywide and a no burn ordinance was tabled for June 15.

McKay Street Fire Damages Garage Beside Saline Apartment
A fire on McKay Street damaged a rear garage and damaged roof area of an adjacent apartment house next to the Junior High School. Saline Fire Department responded at 6 30 a m and extinguished the blaze. The property is owned by Waldo Gross of Highland Drive.
