Police investigate three Mill Valley apartment thefts with no entry points found. Incidents include 56 dollars in food stamps and change May 17, 237 dollars cash plus jewelry May 18–20, and 153 dollars stolen while occupant slept. A 1974 Maverick on Hollywood Drive suffered windshield vandalism early this week.
Saline City Council weighs funding Dial-A-Ride for next year as a $365 000 program. Critics question the proposed $5 000 city share arguing ridership and subsidies per ride are high and suggesting taxi alternatives. Community groups back continued service but deliberations continue.
The Annual Memorial Day parade, directed by the American Legion, starts 10 am Monday May 30 at N Harris Street and Michigan Avenue, traveling to Oakwood Cemetery for services led by Chaplain Richard Weeden. Key performers include Butch Munsell, Danny Martin, Carl Whitley, Matt Hagood, Don Hutchins, Mike Wingate, Mike Keller, Al Rittinger, Tom Jenkins, Carter Bishop, Steve O Connor, Ron Reynolds and Damon.
The Saline Area Fire Department seeks storage for a 1939 pumper truck retired in recent years. They will consider an oversized garage, old barn, or outdoor space in the Saline area. Diane Hill at City Hall is to be contacted for offers while the department preserves a piece of local parade history.
City of Saline debates lowering the 10 mill statewide hike triggered by a state tax commission revaluation. With the higher equalized property value, lowering to 9.819 mills would leave only 42.15 in contingencies, while keeping 10 mills would fund an $11,000 increase or reallocation for city projects. Council split 3-3 as Mary Hess shifted positions, delaying a decision with continuation noted.
A Saline High senior scholarship is announced by a committee led by 1967 graduates in memory of Jim Carman who died after battling cancer. The fund aims at a $200 yearly award for a top 25 percent health occupations student, with a permanent plaque at the high school.
