Saline seniors receive multiple college scholarships noted

Saline High School seniors have been notified as recipients of scholarships from colleges universities and the State of Michigan. Awards Night on June 6 will announce local and organization awards. Recipients include Martin Feldkamp Lois Dieterle Marilyn Blaind Janet Charlton Carolyn Wild Linda Bird Barbara Jannuzzi Kathyleen Genik Lenora Haeussler and others with various Regents Trustees and Foundation scholarships.

Three School Candidates File Petitions for June Election

Nominating petitions filed for two Board of Education seats in the June 9 election. Incumbents Max Collins and Mrs. Robert Heiserman join new candidate Donald W. Tinkle of the University of Michigan. Voters will also decide on 10.85 mills for school operation including last year’s 7.54 mill renewal and 3.31 mill increase for staff salaries.

Hospital Auxiliary to Elect Officers

Saline Community Hospital Auxiliary will elect officers at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Ed. Hering, 208 Russell St. Each member to bring a 25 cent gift for exchange. The Senior Citizens will meet at 6 30 p.m. Monday at the American Legion hall for a potluck dinner followed by cards and games.

Library Friends Elect Officers in Saline

The Rev Merle Meeden was elected president of the Friends of the Saline Library at a Monday meeting. Mrs John Dwyer was named vice president. Other officers include Mrs Eleanor Wild recording secretary Mrs Sally Hanifi corresponding secretary and Bob Smiley treasurer.

Santa Claus to Visit Saline Despite Chamber Skies

The Saline Chamber of Commerce plans a Santa visit after a final meeting on Tuesday. Dave Potter and four members discussed arrangements at Comvensity Ford Sales with others including Paul Sibson Jack Steele and Leon Vedder. The group also donated Christmas decorations to the city and remaining treasury funds to the Saline Library.

Saline Students Honored at EMU Honors Convocation

At Eastern Michigan University 1,659 undergraduates earned high scholastic averages. Stolen Car Found Damaged At Metropolitan Airport

A car owned by Charles Wahl of 200 W McKay St was found damaged at Metropolitan Airport after being taken from the High School parking lot Friday afternoon. Recovered Saturday afternoon by the Wayne County Sheriff Department the vehicle had damage on both sides one flat tire and bent rims. Another car owned by Richard Desbrow of Manchester was reported stolen from the Ford Motor Co parking lot between 3 30 and 9 30 p m Saturday.

Saline Planning Commission Urges Dam Millpond Preservation

The Saline Planning Commission unanimously approves a motion urging residents and the city council to take action to preserve the millpond historic landmark. The resolution cites the millpond as a key aesthetic area affected by the 1968 flood and notes its under city jurisdiction and value to health and welfare.

Advisory Group Forming to Aid Hospital Board

An organizational meeting is planned Tuesday at 8 pm in the High School library to establish an Advisory Council for the Hospital Board. Public officials, service club representatives, and local residents from Milan, Dundee, Maybee, Manchester, Saline, and surrounding townships are invited to attend.

Summer Ball Registrations Due Saturday

Registrations for the summer league baseball program are due this Saturday at 2 pm for players ages 8 through 18. Sign up at the Junior High School parking lot off McKay Street with a parent present. Ray Mallory notes 13-year-olds should register to join Babe Ruth try-outs next week. new Pony League covers 12 and 13-year-olds, Little League for 9 to 11, T-ball for 8, and Connie Mack for 16 to 18.

Contingency Fund Covers Dam Removal Plans For City

The 1869 70 city budget relies on a $45 400 contingency fund for removing the Saline River Dam and restoring riprap to prevent erosion. Mayor Hugh Keveling notes the fund would not cover all work and a larger program could include converting the dry pond into a park with substantial additional costs.

Woman's Club Installs Officers in Brooklyn

The Saline Woman's Club installed officers for the coming year at a spring luncheon meeting Monday. Mrs. Mary Woods will serve another term as president and Mrs. Tony Schild will again be first vice president. Lynford Bracey became second vice president, recording secretary is Mrs. Ruben Finkbeiner, corresponding secretary Mrs. Charles Kern, treasurer Mrs. Carl Kraus, and custodian Mrs. Helen Koebbe.

Dentists Aid Saline Mouthguard Program

Local dentists and assistants gathered at Saline High School to take impressions for custom mouthguards for about 100 football players. Donors include Dr. Mancari, Dr. Larder, Dr. Eisemann, Dr. Hoffman, Dr. Koran, and Dr. Schaeffer. No significant dental injuries have occurred in six years of the program.

Spring Arts Festival Opens At Saline High This Weekend

The Saline High School art, industrial education, and music departments present the annual Spring Arts Festival over Friday Saturday and Sunday. The event features student work from 1968 69 with district regional and state awards and a Sunday concert by the High School Band and Chorus directed by Malcolm Danforth and Morris Risenhoover. The Sousa Award and National Choral Award will be presented to seniors, with a tribute to former Chorus director Lester McCoy. Tickets cost 50 cents students 75 cents adults and $2 families with proceeds aiding band expenses. Educational displays are free.
