License Comes With Type E Go Go Dancers At Bridgewater Tavern

Bridgewater Tavern featured go go dancers last weekend despite the entertainment permit expiring May 1. Owner William Kletter surrendered the license after disputes with residents and the township board but temporarily holds a renewed liquor license marked with E for entertainment. He plans to return the license and await a new one without the E designation, leaving the tavern’s entertainment status uncertain until the new document arrives.

Saline Alumni Celebrate Spirit of 48176 Banquet and Play

The Saline Alumni Association hosts its annual banquet on June 11 and a reunion event featuring the Bicentennial themed musical The Spirit of 48176 at Saline High School June 10 11 12. Tickets go on sale May 15 at Citizens Bank and Saline Bank with reservations through Barry or Marlene Jacobsen by May 29. Dinner price five fifty. dinner theater seven fifty.

Break-In At Saline High School Leads To Juvenile Hold

In April 26 break in at Saline High School three youths stole 10 scientific scales worth 1000 dollars entering via an open window. Eight scales were recovered and youths held for a hearing. On May 2 a man with a bench warrant was arrested after a bar check. A separate arson call caused minimal damage to a gas meter cover with one charred match found. Police logged about 86 runs in the last week including 23 traffic arrests and 1 juvenile apprehension.

Frost Threat Hits Saline Orchards Keep Praying And Spraying

Richard Gaskill of Saline Orchards recounts a severe frost scare that hit his apple and strawberry crops. He and his sons worked from 11:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. with a tractor drawn fog sprayer after air spraying failed. Despite some losses, they saved most fruit and plan continued alarms and prayers.

Saline Council Hears Subsidy and Parking Plan

Saline City Council moved through a long agenda with two discussions. Ruth Garrison for the Saline Area Senior Council asked for 500 from the contingency fund to cover taxi service losses after only 150 of 600 expected from United Way. The second item was the E Michigan Avenue shopping center parking lot replacement.

Saline travelog tied to Brecon visit and council funding

Mayor Anderson presented a Brecon Wales travelogue at City Hall with a videotape showing Saline group visits. The audience included Council members and Salinians planning a future trip. The council voted 250 to subsidize the program from contingency funds, while clarifying funding as a city initiative via the Senior Council. The meeting also covered repaving of the E Michigan Ave parking lot with bond funds and upcoming water and sewer discussions for May 10 work session.

Youths Take Polygraph Tests in Cemetery Vandalism Case

The County Sheriff's Department has assigned responsibility for last month’s damage at Oak Hill Cemetery. Lt. M. Rice says polygraph examinations have been given to several youths suspected of vandalizing about 50 grave markers on Macon Road. Names of the accused were not released at press time.

Saline Lions raise record $1176 for the blind at White Cane Sale

The Saline Lions Club held its second annual White Cane Sale to aid the blind and raised a record $1,176 during a five hour event. In the left photo sale chairman Jerry McCoy delivers the pitch while Si Woods and John O Connell wait for buyers on the main drag.
