Split Vote Approves Colony Estates Preliminary Plat

Saline City Council, in a 4-3 vote, approved the preliminary plat for 42 homes in Colony Estates planned by Whittier Construction Co. on 136 vacant acres. Stipulations cover roads, drainage, sidewalks, fencing, and safety. final ordinances to follow. The project could extend to 230 houses over years, with final plat possible in about 60 days.

Saline Hosts Brecon Film Evening In City Hall

Saline residents are invited to a 8 p.m. Saline City Hall viewing of a 45 minute BBC telecast about Brecon Wales. The event includes a 10 minute segment on last summer’s Brecon visit by Mayor George Anderson and others with tea and crumpets served at 7 30 prior to the film. City Council will meet after the film.

Saline Walkathon collects pledges for March of Dimes

214 hikers joined the Saline Walkathon despite cold weather raising 55 663.94 in pledges. Union School led with 98 walkers and top fundraisers included Marty Loader 109.80 Kim Stivers 170 Nancy Luckhardt 38.40 Kevin Taylor 115.32 Stacey Starling 102.24. Mayor George Anderson and Councilman Nehring joined the event finishing in 1 45 and 1 55 respectively.

Quiz Youths On Cemetery Vandalism

A Saline County investigation into Oak Hill Cemetery damage notes juveniles as suspects with names withheld. Detectives interview numerous youths next week while reviewing beer cans trash and tire tracks found at the site. The vandalism dated April 9 10 caused about 5000 dollars in damage and 50 stones toppled. Residents helped reset markers.

Lions urge gifts to aid sightless in Saline

The Saline Lions Club plans a white cane sale on May 1 to fund aid for blind Michiganians. Chairman Jerry McCoy leads a drive to provide leader dogs and support for blind people, with volunteers stationed at four corners downtown and two local lots from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds help clients and encourage self sufficiency.

Police describe a white male in his late teens as the thief who broke into a Saline home on April 25 stealing a stereo worth 400 dollars a diamond ring 500 dollars two ladies watches 140 dollars and 5 dollars in coins. Open case but under investigation.

Saline Rec Commission to hold two public hearings

The Saline Recreation Commission invites residents to a public hearing on Thursday April 29 at 8 p.m. in City Hall to explain a 1 mill recreation tax on the May 18 ballot. If approved it will raise about $60,000 annually for five years for park improvements. A second hearing is set for May 13 from 8 to 10 p.m. Copies of the five year budget are at City Hall and Saline Library.
