A donkey game sponsored by Saline Junior Sheriff Deputies drew a large crowd after a partial school search and a police threat. Sheriff deputies beat Saline Police by about 6 2, with the donkeys and Jaycees also winning points. proceeds support the chapter’s projects.
Saline police officers association and the city of Saline pursue cordial contract talks for better benefits. Attorney Henry Ritchie for SPCA and Councilman George Johnson for the city have met several times and reported progress with 27 SPCA proposals. Johnson says negotiations are within the 27 framework and anticipates an early settlement.
Fire department warns residents about grass fire season now in effect with calls on Judd Road from a trash barrel start and four acres burned on Austin Road plus incidents on Macon and Braun Roads during the week.

Saline's total assessed valuation rises to about 37 million after the county ordered a city-wide re-assessment. The Board of Review held 87 appeals Monday, with 51 walk-ins, and will reconvene Thursday to review each case and inspect selected parcels.
A Saline River flood on March 4 demonstrated the millpond restoration plan. The proposed $30,000 project would lower the spillway, not harming scenery, and officers from Dundee Cement Co. confirm the cut is safe and strengthens the dam.
The Saline Junior High Concert Band won first ratings at the District Festival, one of 12 class C bands. Clarenceville also earned straight firsts. Judges praised the mature sound, fine intonation, and well trained phrasing, with a note on uniform shoe color.
