Fire crews responded to a house fire morning and rescued a mother dog Duchess and her six week old puppies along with the home. The pups and mother were unharmed aside from wet fur and odor. the fire was traced to a light bulb in the doghouse. A field mouse crossing the grass fire also appears in companion shots. The 106 member Saline High School Band earned a first division rating overall at the District Band Festival in Milan. Three judges gave concert performance firsts with a second in sight-reading, placing Saline among four area Class B bands advancing to the State Festival in Flint on April 25.

Saline Fire Department Budget Approved for Next Year
City and township officials authorized an $11 820 Fire Department budget for the coming year and increased pay for chiefs and firemen. The department serves Saline City Lodi and several townships including York Freedom and Bridgewater. Fire Chief salary rises to 800 dollars annually and Assistant Chief to 500 dollars a year. Firemen receive five dollars for the first hour and four dollars thereafter per call plus five dollars for each of two monthly meetings attended.
