Saline Band Dominates District Festival With All First Ratings
The Saline High School Band, directed by Mac Danforth, earned all first ratings at the District Festival, a unique achievement for a class B school with 104 members. They join Milan, Lincoln, Dexter, Chelsea and others in class A competition, and plan to perform at the State Band Festival on April 26 and attend a Chicago exchange trip. The Junior High Band also competes at Willow Run High School.

Fires Damage Two Houses Here Tuesday
Saline firefighters battled two house fires Tuesday saving both structures though each sustained damage. An abandoned Maple Rd. blaze started about 5 30 am and the Willis Rd. fire at 1355 Willis Rd. drew crews by 8 45 am. Dennis Sturm was at work and Mrs Sturm, with the children, were away. Firefighters worked about 90 minutes. Extent of damage undetermined. Minor grass fires also reported over the weekend.

Hall Street pedestrian struck by car injures Schleh
John Schleh 87 of Hall Street was hit by a car at Hall and East Michigan Avenue Friday evening, suffering a broken leg and hand. The driver Ronald Braun 19 said he could not avoid the pedestrian who doubled back. Schleh is recovering at Saline Community Hospital. He formerly owned the Schleh Building sold to aid the Saline Library.
