Junior Champ program highlights at EC0ming meet

Saturday’s Junior Champs at EC0ming drew many local track stars from last year with numerous records shattered as Jaycees compile results. Winners to be announced next week. A relay close to finish impressed the crowd with Daycees and boy contestants racing. Bill Taylor started other events and finished strong. Dozens of medals and ribbons were awarded to the youngsters by Jaycee president Jack Kelley. Dan Roughton chaired the program before an audience of about 80.

All Around Saline Youth Wins Pony Show Ribbon

Gussie Beach, 8, daughter of the Farrell Beaches of Judd Road, won first plate ribbon and trophy in the pony class for 52 inches and under at the Dundee horse show Sunday. She rode Fairwon, the pony she co-owns and shares with her sisters Bonnie and Jennie. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Burkhart of North Ann Arbor Street vacationing, planning visits to their son Charlie and wife Theresa in Benton Harbor and another son Pvt. John Burkhart at Fort Knox with relatives in Kentucky.

Summer recreation program and activities schedule

City to Buy Present Site and Flagpole Gift Planned

City Council will buy the present City Hall site at Saline from Saline Savings Bank for 55,000 dollars subject to a satisfactory purchase agreement. The Business and Professional Women's club donated a flagpole to be placed at the new fire hall at Michigan and Harris streets, with construction slated for completion in August.

Saline Title I program sparks student growth and hope

More than 90 Saline area children in the new Title I program discover they can cope and be valued individuals. They stay after class for two weeks, visit stores and factories, plan trips, and access a wide library, gaining confidence, decision making, and better behavior as teachers and volunteers support them.
