Seniors Honored In Awards Night

Awards night at the high school featured honors trophies and scholarships. American Legion Auxiliary Essay awards were presented to Carol Thompson Gary Wiethammer Robert Smith in the senior division and Joan LaRue Marcia Feldkamp Robert Still in the junior division. Ed Strait received the club’s annual award from the Ann Arbor U. of M. Club. High School Principal Elmer Houghton presented scholarships and honors.

Saline Babe Ruth League Seeks 13-Year-Old Players

Under a new Babe Ruth charter the Saline recreation baseball division will form a league team only if at least ten 13 year olds join. The first game is set for Wednesday June 13 as Saline fields two Babe Ruth teams. 13 year olds not making Babe Ruth will play Little League with 48 signed up so far and two leagues American and National.

Wild among 200 selected for Michigan medical school class

Donald E. Wild of 7784 Austin Rd. is one of 200 students chosen by the University of Michigan medical school for the class of 1966 to enter training in September. More than 1000 students applied for the 200 spaces. Wild, a Saline High School graduate, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Wild.

City urged 43 property owners to build sidewalks

City Council unanimously voted to require 43 property owners to install sidewalks by August 1 to create continuous routes to schools and downtown. If unfinished, the city will assess the costs. Saline Police Report Details May Activity

Saline police logged 1,260 property checks in May with 1,218 routine and 42 special. The chief’s report notes 38 traffic violations, 230 parking violations, nine other arrests, 102 complaints, six accidents with two injuries, and 4,247 patrol miles.

City Council approves leasing a third voting machine with purchase option at 1640 dollars. Machine to be delivered before the August primary. rental already included in next year’s budget.

Measley Joins Saline Police Force as New Officer

Jack Measley, 31, a nine year police veteran, is hired as a full time Saline officer. He will serve a 90 day probationary period after a selection from eight applicants. The process included a written test and interviews with officials and a psychiatrist. Measley has served in the Army and previously held posts with Ann Arbor police, a sheriff's deputy, and UM police work.

City Buys Park Land With Gift

Saline purchases about 21 acres of park land west of the river adjacent to the current park. The parcel fronts 200 feet on W Michigan avenue. The $4,000 price was a gift from Carl Curtiss, president of Citizens Bank. The acquisition raises this year’s Saline park gains to about 73 acres, tied to the Saline Mill site and Hamel Bros. Chemical Co. chain of ownership through Ford and Valley Chemical before Hamel Bros.

Budget Includes 2210 for Street Work

Council acknowledged bids on an estimated 22 810 street maintenance project to be studied at the June 18 meeting. Planned work covers seabcoating on multiple streets, final surfaces and rebuilds with costs listed, all included in the 1962 63 budget.

Building Permit Issued on Lowery Farm

A Lodi township permit is issued to Daryel R. Wisely of 3545 Woodland Ann Arbor for a two story brick and frame residence costing 25000 to be built 1400 feet from Saline Ann Arbor Rd on the former Lowery farm. The 600 acre farm was purchased last month from Joseph Lowery by Wisely and Robert Laughnn of 1735 Arlington Ann Arbor.
