Rural leaders split over Washtenaw Home Rule proposals
A rural Washtenaw County audience hears three Home Rule proposals. The SICC plan would allow a county charter to abolish elected offices or make them appointive and fund up to 10 mills, with districts elected by population. Other bills would keep offices elected and add district apportionment options. Augusta Township Supervisor Harold Williams warned the SICC bill could liquidate Augusta Township amid fears of reduced rural representation.

Joyce K Schwemmin of Saline received a B S degree and elementary provisional teaching certificate at Eastern Michigan University during the mid winter commencement exercises Sunday. Mr and Mrs Arthur Buss and others attended the aunt Mrs William Buss funeral in St Charles Illinois last Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Erwin Wild dined with the Maders in Ann Arbor. Other guests included Mr and Mrs Herman Rombardt and several couples.

The Washtenaw County Chapter of the American Red Cross thanks the Saline community for cooperation in the recent Blood Clinic. Ninety one productive donors contributed to 31 pints more than the last clinic, helping meet local needs through donor space and volunteer effort.

YSH notes Mrs. Jack Spence will return this week to her home on Be mis Rd after a two week visit with her mother in St. Petersburg Florida. Walter Peguskie and Harold Palmer were visitors in Newberry January 23 and 24. Mrs. Howard Deming of Vanderbilt is visiting her daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs Edward Doll at their home near Saline. Mrs Judy Hunt and son Michael of San Diego California visited for a week at the home of her aunt and uncle Mr and Mrs Paul Deming in Milan.
