Boy Scout Paper Drive Planned in Saline Area

Boy Scouts of Saline organize a quarterly paper drive in Saline on Saturday January 3. Scouts will visit each house in the city and residents outside town may call for pickup at Harold West 429 9853 or Harold Fritts 971 4578.

Saline girl returns from Peace Corps to share two years in the Philippines

Rachel Woods, daughter of Mrs. Mary Woods of Clark Street, traveled from the Philippines to Saline for Christmas. A Saline High School and Eastern Michigan University graduate, she spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer teaching the blind in the Philippine Islands. She trained at Stanford and learned Tagalog, recounting challenges such as stigma toward disabled children, scarce resources, and a harsh view from a local oil executive about employing the blind.

Rubella Immunization Drive Planned in Washtenaw County

Washtenaw County Health Department and partners schedule a rubella campaign for 16 000 kindergarten to third grade students across 50 elementary schools. The no charge vaccination will be offered at Jensen and Houghton schools on February 4 with parental written consent required.

City Council Meeting and Zoning Hearing Set

The City Council will meet at 7 30 p m Monday January 5 in the council chamber. At 8 p m a zoning hearing will consider changing 105 N Lewis St from single family to two family zoning.

Jaycees Plan Annual Tree Pickup and Bonfire

Jaycees will collect discarded Christmas trees as a community service on Saturday January 3. Residents should place trees at the curb by 1 PM for citywide pickup. Ron Fink Beiner is chairman. The yard waste will be burned under fire department supervision at 6 PM in the open field behind Curtiss Park.
