Public hears on proposed Saline elementary school site

Five members of the public attended an informational meeting by the Saline Area Schools Board to learn about a proposed new elementary school slated for Mills Road and Bennett Street. Officials outlined crowding, enrollment projections, and the need for immediate action ahead of the December 14 bond vote.

Santa Claus Set to Arrive in Saline This Saturday

Santa will arrive in Saline Saturday at 2 p.m. in a bright red convertible and begin his first 1964 appearance. He will hold court at Citizens Bank rear on December 5 12 and 19 from 2 to 5 p.m. and pass out candy to children. On December 19 he will close an hour early and move to the Intermediate School gym for a Kiwanis Christmas program at 4 p.m. The Saline Chamber of Commerce outlines other Christmas activities including a mailbox at Corner Drug Store for letters and a planned downtown caroling by Girl Scouts Brow nies.

Barrus Receives 8 1 4 to 25 Year Prison Sentence

Joseph D. Barrus 27 a former Saline resident was sentenced by Circuit Judge William Ager to an indeterminate 8 12 to 25 year term for attempted murder He admitted planning to strangle his wife Jerre at their Rosemont Street home last summer He was arrested at work at the University of Michigan and has been jailed in Lan sing pending transfer Mrs Barrus has recovered.

Outhouse Dismantled at Rail Depot Quietly

New York Central freight agent E A Sawall reported to police that during the Thanksgiving holiday an outhouse at the railroad depot was torn apart. Investigators found the sides and interior removed. the structure was no longer in use. No value was estimated.

Local farm to host new electronics supply firm

Dr. V A Basman plans to convert an 80 acre Fosdick Road farm into a 10 000 square foot electronics manufacturing and R D site for Microtron, with an Ann Arbor office already in operation. The venture aims to secure military industrial medical and educational contracts and may begin production in four to six months. Basman also represents local electronics distributors and holds patents in electronic components and sensor devices.

Jerry McPeake Elected to Head Masonic Lodge

Jerry McPeake was elected worshipful master of Masonic Lodge No. 133, F. and A.M., on Tuesday evening. New officers include Walter W. Martin senior warden and Harry L. Anonymous Call Warns of Dynamite Under Porch

Mrs. Martin Welter of 221 Monroe St. reported an anonymous call claiming dynamite under her porch. Police searched the house but found nothing and she knew of no likely caller.

Chamber board endorses two Saline candidates for college posts

Allan Grossman and Mrs. Paul Woods were not both known to board members when endorsement was considered. C-C President Harry Parsons said the chamber could endorse both, noting six seats on the college board and the potential benefit of Saline candidates serving.

Saline Area United Fund Aims To Top National Goal

Buford Soden reports Saline Area United Fund has reached 93.8 percent of its goal with total contributions at 12 214 18 dollars, 810 82 short of 13 095. The drive expects further industry and residential gifts and plans to share any overage among participating agencies if the target is surpassed.

BPW Sells Christmas Trees For Scholarship Fund

The Business and Professional Women's club opens its annual Christmas tree sale Saturday at the corner of E Michigan Ave and Harris St. The sale runs afternoons and evenings through Christmas to fund a local young woman's business career scholarship and to support the BPW's $300 pledge toward a band shell or other use. Trees come in all sizes and varieties from the Arend farm.
