Saline Community Chest Kickoff Promotes Generous Giving

Saline marks the start of its Community Chest Drive on October 15 with a goal of 1477 dollars. The fund combines with the United Fund backing 33 agencies including USO Heart Association Traveler's Aid Society and Multiple Sclerosis Society to aid Washtenaw County residents and various service programs.

The Saline Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star observed the 50th anniversary of Washtenaw County Association with a Sept 21 gathering at the Elementary School. Delegates from Ann Arbor Ypsilanti Dexter Manchester Milan Chelsea and Saline attended along with Grand Chapter officers.

Saline Community Hospital Association mailed certificates to members who have paid pledges. Certificates are issued for each $100 contributed. donors who have paid $100 or more will receive the respective certificate for that amount.

Saline Road to Run One Way on U M Home Football Days

Plans to restrict Saline Road from Ex pressway to Stadium Blvd to one way before and after Michigan football games this fall aim to speed traffic to the stadium. About 19 officials from Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti police, sheriffs, highway departments, and city boards attended a Michigan Union luncheon, with U M athletics hosting.

Saline Hornets Fan Rally Opens 1957 Season

Saline High School opened the 1957 football season with a 19 6 victory over Pinckney at home. Don Wild and a 25 yard pass from Larry Lange sparked Saline in the second and late third quarters. Pinckney answered with an 89 yard drive and a 12 yard pass to Lonnie Huhman, before Bob Rathfon sealed Saline's win with a 19 yard quarterback keeper. Despite fog and predictions, a strong crowd enjoyed the opener.

Adult Education Classes Begin Sept 30 At Local High School

Adult Education programs open the week of September 30 in the high school building. Registration runs September 23 to 27 at the principal’s office or Friday September 27 from 7 to 9 pm. Courses include sewing, cake decorating, Spanish, driver training, ceramics, bridge, typing, square dancing, and more with multiple instructors.
