Saline poll gauges local opinions on town matter

About 265 residents from Rotary Club, Women's Club, Junior Chamber, Masons, Eastern Star, American Legion, and others weighed in on a Town Journal based 40 question survey. Adults and students answered separately. four items show differences. Results were compiled by the Saline Child Study Club and will be printed next week in the Saline Observer.

Thieves Steal Tire From 1939 Word Car

Sometime last Saturday night or early Sunday morning thieves jacked up the left front of a 1939 Word owned by Johnson at 7847 East Michigan Avenue and stole a 600x16 tire. They abandoned a partially filled gas can after draining gasoline from a Jeep parked in front, leaving no clues according to police.

Hornets Start Season Tough Schedule in September

Saline High School Hornets begin football practice under Coach Jack Hayes. They face four Class B opponents in eight games, starting September 17 at Carleton. Home games at Hemne Field include Milan September 24 Dundee October 1 and University High October 8.

Fun Club Plans Films on Cancer for Women

Two films on cancer will be shown Wednesday evening September 15 at 8 in the basement of St. Pauls Church. Dr Banghart and Dr Williams from St Josephs Hospital will speak and answer questions. Mrs Lois Kohler will introduce the speaker. Refreshments will be served and a collection taken for the American Cancer Society. All women in the community are invited.

Pin Awarded for Thirty Years of Service to Saline Wins

Mrs. Winifred Woelper Gall received a diamond service pin on Wednesday September 4 at the General Telephone Company in Saline honoring thirty years of service to local patrons. The presentation was by L. H. Meyers, Muskegon, with other officials present. Ms. Gall began in September 1924 at the Saline switchboard, later becoming cashier and chief operator, then head of the local business office.

Cub Pack 146 Opens Season With Meet At School

The Cub Pack 146 will hold its first meeting of the season at the school on Tuesday September 14 at 7 30 open to any boy aged 8 to 11. Special guests will be Boy Scouts parents and leaders. Red Cross Seeks Volunteers In Saline And Hospitals

A Red Cross worker will be at Saline Savings Bank Monday from 10 to 12 to take volunteer applications. About 200 volunteers are needed for Ann Arbor Veterans Hospital and Ypsilanti State Hospital to read and write letters interpret languages assist with therapy and help with parties.
