William C Bailey of Underhill Vermont, 86, has ridden over 18 000 miles in seven years and is traveling by bicycle from Vermont to Chicago and back His journeys include a Chicago bicycle meet where he placed second as the oldest rider He carries his name and address on a box behind the seat and a Chicago firm gave him a custom bicycle with special features He plans to travel about 2500 miles this summer and has even appeared in Ripley s Believe It Or Not and on We the People

Roy Miller and Gordon Trout spoke of Alpena and Clear Lake trips while Dr Prout described Canada travels. T M Clay proposed a horseshoe pitching court at the school ground. A committee was named to explore lighting and matches. A new teacher aid Hints on Teaching Health is distributed by Washtenaw County Tuberculosis Association with health education units and posters.

License must be worn on back with hunting permit

Hunters will receive a transparent holder with their license to wear on the back. Warnings urge compliance or risk being sent home by conservation officers. Open seasons run October 15 to November 5 for squirrels and cock pheasants and October 15 to December 31 for rabbits.

Boy Scout Day at Michigan State College Plans Announced

Local troops outline fall activities including Boy Scout Day at Michigan State College in East Lansing on Saturday September 30 Scouts and leaders admitted free to the Wayne University Michigan State game at 2 pm. Michigan to issue uniform 1940 truck license plates

Starting March 1 1940 Michigan will ban special truck license plates and replace them with uniform two letter and four number plates. The county code will appear on each plate to aid police and a saving of about 50000 dollars is anticipated from eliminating special plates and related costs.
