In the August 21 1890 issue the Observer reports a Brooklyn pickle factory active. It notes community concerns such as bur docks near Ypsilanti churches and a failed effort to remove them, a drowning near Bridgewater, onion pulling in Pittsfield and various local travels and trades including wheat sales and a planned iron bridge across the Huron at Ann Arbor.

RK G Hill of Michigan State College notes about 400 000 acres across 6 000 farms are under community co operatives. Deadline Sept 20 for applications. County agents and state conservation staff offer guidance. Kingston in 1936 started the program with 75 farmers on 15 000 acres.
