Wintering Bees Require Larder For Michigan Colonies
Michigan's 200000 bee colonies need heavy winter feed as honey prices rise 10 to 15 percent. Extension beekeeper R H Kelly outlines 50 to 60 pounds of white honey per colony, tar paper shelter ideas, and newspaper-bound colony unions. He notes 1936 honey crop near 13 million pounds and bees’ role in fruit and seed fertilization valued at about 21 million dollars.
