Fred Gillen describes a near fatal Burma air crash on September 9. The aircraft, crew chief on daily flights to support the 14th Army, lost a left engine and crashed soon after takeoff. One Indian serviceman was killed, several injured, Gillen suffered broken ribs and bruises, while the pilot and co-pilot had minor injuries.
An article explains the American Legion’s formation in Paris in 1919 and its goals to uphold the Constitution defend law and order promote Americana foster community obligation and transmit justice freedom and democracy as it plans its enlarged future program.

The National War Fund and 10 000 affiliated community groups launch the final campaign to raise funds for war relief and postwar welfare services. USO programs expand to 500 clubs near hospitals and camps support convalescents and occupation troops as Allied nations face renewed hunger and need.
