Linoleum Printing Christmas Cards at Saline High

The Saline High School Art Department under Mrs. Jean Taylor creates Christmas cards using linoleum printing. An original sketch is carved on linoleum, ink is rolled onto the block, and cards are pressed to transfer the design. Finished cards showcase Yuletide spirit for holiday mailings.

Saline Community Called On to Build New Hospital

Community urged to support a Saline County Hospital with a 25 bed, one story facility including nursery and children ward. Existing Saline General Hospital of 17 beds and limited space prompts plans approved by local doctors and nurses.

Hospital Board Sets Public Meeting for November 30

The Saline Community Hospital Association will hold a public meeting next Tuesday November 30 at the school. Leo Jensen secretary of the hospital board urged all community groups to send a representative and asked interested persons to attend.

George Cavender Guest Conductor At Band Concert

The December 8 concert at the High School Auditorium features George Cavender of the University of Michigan Bands as guest conductor. Jim Austin and Bob Koester headline solos. Austin played at Interlochen this summer. the program opens with the Cadet Band at 8:00, admission free.

Saline Area School District to reactivate Advisory Council

Saline Area School District board at the high school last week discussed reactivating the Advisory Council. They asked Randall Coates to call a council meeting to choose a school name, colors, a dedication program, and plan an open house next fall. The board also approved school additions to the high school and tasked an architect with evaluating roof drainage. Mrs. Frank Benish to teach social studies, replacing John Williams who resigned for health reasons.

Giltraw Suffers Heart Attack After Ohio Trip

A. L. Giltraw and wife traveled to Columbus for the Michigan Ohio State football game. On returning to Dunkirk, Ohio he suffered a heart attack. He was treated by a physician, moved to Saline by ambulance, and admitted to Saline General Hospital where he remains under care.

Lodi Township Sets Public Meeting On Junk Yard Rules

The Lodi Township Board calls a public meeting Friday at 8 30 p m in the township hall to seek input on a local junk yard. Officials say the yard has not complied with all laws for this type of business, but no closure is planned. the board wants public opinions on procedures to adopt.

Church Women Aid TB Christmas Seals Campaign

On November 19 Trinity Lutheran Church women folded stamped and mailed 669 TB Christmas envelopes for the Saline mailing list in Ann Arbor. Participants included Mrs. Herman Mamaro Mrs. Otto Jindemann Mrs. Albert Hoeft and others. Curtiss of Saline is noted as a County TB Association member.

Fosdick Group Makes Gifts For Blind Children

The Fosdick Extension Group met at Mrs. George Wallo’s home for a Santa helper day. Twelve members and two guests made stuffed animals puzzles and marked gloves for blind children. A buffet lunch was served. Another meeting is planned November 29 at Mrs. Elmer Tobias’s home.

Farm Bureau Kick Off Banquet Opens Drive

Washtenaw County Farm Bureau holds its Roll Call Kick-Off at Pittsfield Grange Hall on Monday November 29 dinner served by the Women’s Committee. Frank McCalla chairs the drive aiming for 1800 member families with 6900 volunteers across 64 counties to raise Michigan Farm Bureau membership.
