Christmas Season Plans By Saline Chamber Of Commerce

The Saline Chamber of Commerce finalizes Christmas events led by president Kenneth Rogers and adviser Howard Sommers. Children may mail letters to a special box on East Michigan Ave and South Ann Arbor, Santa arrives Saturdays through Dec 21, with a prize drawing. Dec 14 hosts a free school movie. Adults join in holiday shopping Dec 29 30 and a window display prize on Dec 7.

New OES Officers Plan Shoppers Show November 18

The new OES officers held a regular meeting last Monday evening. They planned a Shoppers Show for November 18 at the Masonic hall at 8 p.m. with Christmas gifts and toys. Refreshments followed. Mrs. Lee Robison reported on the Grand Chapter Session at Grand Rapids October 8, 1910. A school of instruction was announced for December 30 with Mrs. Phyllis Stone as instructress. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Robert Towner and others.

Birth of Baby Girl to Mr and Mrs Philip Badour

Mary Meister announces the birth of a daughter on Wednesday November 6 at St Joseph Hospital in Ann Arbor. The baby weighs eight pounds three ounces. Grandparents are Basil Badour William Meister. Great grandmother Mable Richardson of Toledo and great great grandmother Nettie Moser of Toledo. Great grandfather George A Cobb of Higgins Lake.

Brownie Fly Up Ceremony Marks Scout Transition

Last Thursday evening at Saline Elementary School the Brownies celebrated their Fly Up into Intermediate Girl Scouts after completing Tenderfoot. Mothers enjoyed a program with welcomes, arch passage, flag ceremonies, promises, laws, and pins. Troops 1 2 and 3, led by Mrs Rolland Sutton Mrs Robert Harl and Mrs Gerald Coe and co leaders, received pins and ranks. Refreshments followed by local auxiliaries and clubs.

Past Matrons Club Meets Amid Holiday Plans

The Past Matrons club gathered at Mia's home with 19 members present. Desserts and coffee were served by the hostess with assistance from Mrs. Gross and Mrs. Mann. Plans were set for a Christmas party December 9 at Mrs. Everett Wolfin's home. Mrs. Lee Robison was initiated into the club. Ten members dined earlier at the Saline hotel.

Hedlesky Promoted Librarian at Library of Congress

Nicholas Hedlesky formerly of Saline and now with the Library of Congress in Washington D C is promoted to librarian in the Subject Cataloging Division handling Slavic materials. Ground broken for Saline Community Hospital with Bridgewater Lumber Co. bid of 158600 for a 24 bed facility expected ready by September 15 1958.

Saline Students Take Part in Government Day

Washtenaw County held its annual boys and girls government day on November 7 with Saline High students taking part. Student selections included elective offices such as Circuit Court Commissioner and County Clerk, plus appointive roles like County Administrator and Supt. of Schools. A narcotics case involving Joseph W. Sawyer and Willard C. Smith was witnessed, with Judge James R. Breakey Jr. presiding.
