Saline Army Service Totals Highlight Local Weight Drive

The Saline group lists names by rank and weight totals with a grand sum of 41 000 pounds. Sergeants Kilvin Brown and Gerald Miller lead, while Corporals and PFCs such as Kay Austin and Glen Hagen contributed solidly. The Bridgewater unit shows Sgt Lloyd Nissley and Gordon Barnes among top collectors. Scouts earned the General Hisenhower Medal for 100 pounds each.

Perry Hayden Speaks at Pittsfield Grange on Dynamic Kernels

Tecumseh resident Perry Hayden, founder of Dynamic Kernels Biblical Wheat, presented colored films at the Pittsfield Grange. Finkbeiner of Saline supplied the first Bald Rock wheat, four crops have been harvested, and 230 acres are under Dynamic Kernels on Henry Ford land at Macon with harvest expected in July and nine tenths planned for fall planting. Mrs. William Rowan Sr. serves as Grange lecturer.

Saline Woman's Club Celebrates 40th Anniversary

The Saline Woman's Club closed its 1944 45 season at the Michigan League Ann Arbor May 1 marking forty years since its 1904 founding. Delegates were elected for the County Federation May 12 and a $50 goal was set for a Pool Fund. Mrs J N Lewis elected president to succeed Mrs Max Fosdick. retiring president Mrs Walter MacArthur presented the office keys.

On V E Day May 8 1945 Saline Michigan turned unusually quiet with stores displaying Victory Closed for the day. Only Uncle Sam and essential services kept operations while banks and post offices stayed open as people reflected on the end of hostilities in Europe.
