Kiwanis Discusses Teen Club Start At Saline

The Kiwanis Club of Saline met at Martys Restaurant with 23 attendees and three guests including Max Peet and John Alley. A film on Detroit Lions highlights was shown. A board meeting planned the Teen Canteen Club opening at Saline High School if the school board approves the gym use. Thieves Steal $29 From Westside Hardware Store

A break-in at Westside Hardware near Saline is under investigation after entry between 1:15 and 1:45 a.m. Police say $29.00 was taken from the cash register and the thieves used a fence post and a car bumper to force the back door. No property recovered. investigation continues.

Saline Music Director Joins UMI Faculty This Fall

Saline Area Schools conductor Arthur Katterjohn will join the University of Michigan faculty this fall while continuing as Saline High School music director. The Michigan Youth Band will be renamed University of Michigan Youth Band and offered through the Extension Service with 15 rehearsals and two April concerts at Saline facilities. Mrs. Katterjohn will assist Dr. Revelli with repertoire and programming. The piece notes Katterjohn’s long service, education, and community roles in Ann Arbor and Saline.

Hostelers Meet at Saline Valley Farms for Spring Round-up

About 65 Hostelers from the Detroit Metropolitan area gathered at Saline Valley Farms for a weekend Spring Round-up June 21 and 22. Led by Al Hyams and Mrs. Hyams they hiked played games danced picnicked and did canoe trips on the Saline River.

Saline Recreation Gets Off To Great Start In 1958

Saline's 1958 summer recreation program opened with about 320 children on Monday. Some bus and swimming schedule confusion arose but was resolved by week’s end. The turnout was the largest in program history prompting minor plan changes. a revised schedule appears on this page.

Local Kiwanis Attend 43rd International Convention in Chicago

Saline Kiwanis members Robert Harrison Jr Hugh Keveling Dr Don Leidheiser and Fred A Hill will attend Kiwanis International's 43rd convention in Chicago from June 29 to July 2 joining 16 000 other Kiwanis members and families at the International Amphitheatre. Speakers include H Park Arnold Sidney Smith Wilber M Brucker Henry Cabot Lodge Jr and Brian Aherne with Arnold delivering the keynote. The cornerstone ceremony for the Kiwanis home office will be held at 101 East Erie Street with notable attendees.
