Graduation Time In Saline Brings Caps Gowns Unity

Saline Sidelights notes graduates in Saline High School wearing caps and gowns as a democratic symbol. Mrs. Max Haswell recalls Omar Feldkamp children in her classes, with six graduates from 1947 to this year. Donald Feldkamp heads to Germany for Army service. Harry Fosdick returns from Korea to attend a parade in California before discharge. Russell Street paving underway delights nearby residents as crews work and locals comment.

Sa line High School Alumni Banquet Honors Classes

The Sa line High School Alumni Association holds a Saturday evening banquet in the school gym. Kenneth Rogers presides, with Patricia White Thomas as toastmaster and Miss Esther Landwehr giving the invocation. Attendees include representatives from 1904 1929 1954 and 1984 classes. entertainment by Karen and Roger Ernst. Banquet and dance tickets are sold at the door.

Saline Names Summer Recreation Program Director

Saline selects Jack Hayes former Saline High School coach as program director with Anne Taylor assisting. Activities run June 28 to August 20 featuring two weekly 6 to 8 pm sports sessions and three afternoons of swimming instruction at a nearby lake. Hayes holds Red Cross lifeguard certification and will oversee playgrounds and waterfront activities. Taylor brings education training and youth activity directing experience.

Thelma Wahl Honored At Showers

Mrs. David Wahl and Mrs. Reu ben Herter traveled to Holland Michigan to attend two showers for Thelma Wahl an X ray technician at Holland Hospital A third shower was given by hospital co workers Thelma received many gifts and relatives and friends attended Thelma and her escorts returned home Monday

Saline High Baccalaureate Service Details

A Saline High School Baccalaureate was held Sunday June 6 with a large crowd. The event featured the Brass Choir directed by Arthur Katterjohn, singing The Church's One Foundation and Oh God Our Help In Ages Past, and the Boys Choir performing Onward Christian Soldiers and Our God Is A Rock. Rev. Theo phil Menzel gave the invocation and Lord's Prayer, and Rev. Harry Ray delivered the sermon on Three Key Words of Character, urging graduates to Do Justly Love Mercy and Walk Humbly With Thy God, tied to the class motto The Higher We Climb the Broader Our View.

Community youth program opens for ages seven to fourteen

The program runs 11:45 Monday through Friday starting on the above date and is open to all girls and boys in the community aged 7 to 14. Interested children should contact Coach Hayes to finalize plans and are urged to attend.

Seniors of 1954 Class Receive Bacca Laureate Honors

The congregation sang God of Our Fathers and heard a benediction from Rev. Theo phil Menzel. Juniors formed an aisle for the Seniors as they passed, marking another Bacca laureate for the Class of 1954.

Dance Recital on June 17 Sponsored by Rotary Club

A dance recital is set for Thursday June 17 at 8 00 PM in the school basement at St Andrews Mission venue. Georges Payne of Ann Arbor directs the classes and Rotary Club sponsors the event with tickets from Rotary members. Saline participants include Christina Schmierle and Jim Austin as soloists and many dancers and a model list ends with Janet Reed and Sharon Larson.

F.H.A. Girls Attend Training Camp Near Battle Creek

Four local F H A members travel to St Marys Lake near Battle Creek for leadership training. Sally Cook serves as regional chairman Donna Mae Wah as president Shirley Uphaus as secretary and Carol Burmeister as treasurer Nan Young serves as vice president but could not join. The group returns Friday. Meanwhile Neil Lindemann and Alvin Wahl conclude two weeks of leave then Bruce Jr and Neil depart for Ft Aberdeen Maryland and Alvin for Camp Gordon Georgia.

Saline Summer Band Rehearsals Begin June 16

The Saline Summer Band offers free participation with rehearsals in the High School Gym at 7 30 on Wednesdays for six weeks starting June 16. All Saline Area residents and nearby towns are welcome, with no membership fee and some instruments provided by the Saline School.

Senior class trip 1954 from Ann Arbor to Washington DC

The class of 1954 departs Ann Arbor at 4 00 p m May 31 via New York Central Railroad. They tour Union Station Washington DC Arlington Cemetery the Capitol the White House Mt Vernon and Arlington Cemetery then continue to New York City docking at Times Square and touring Manhattan sights including the Statue of Liberty.
