Michigan faces a fresh fiscal year with no clear forecast of tax intake or spending. The legislature, long in session, battles budget conflicts with the governor over a sales tax and budget details.
The Saline High community looks to a Seniors dance at Wampler’s Lake on June 15 and a town auto race between Five Points and Ypsi Road. Entries include Des Woodbridge, Chris Volz, Erwin Schmid, Char lene Stewart, Rev Kircher, Fred Gross, and others with strict rules on fuel and passengers.
The Saline Junior 4-H Corn club named officers: President Walter Bredernitz Vice President Stanley Hartman Secretary Kenneth Heininger Treasurer Robert Luckhardt Reporter Warren Finkhbein Local Leader Arthur Lutz. Adelbert McCarthary died May 22 1933 at his Saline home. The group thanks Rev Wittbracht St Paul Evangelical choir and neighbors for flowers and notes. Flora McCarbary and family send thanks for local business kindness.
Plans for the class of 733 include two short program segments called Class Night and a new graduate symposium on a current topic. The event will omit a valedictory or salutatory and honor four-year leaders chosen by overall work rather than recent terms. Baccalaureate will be June 11 at the high school with Rev. C H Kircher delivering the sermon.
In a free hitting contest the North Side defeated the South Side last Thursday evening. Pitcher Fosdick allowed many hits for the Southerners who rode him the distance, while Brown of the Northerners was relieved briefly. Gordon Anthony homered for the South Side and Armbruster answered for the North. Box score reads may be uncertain. Also notes the death of Miss Ida Up haus of Sharon township with services at Emanuel church Manchester.
Myrtle E Rogers daughter of Reuben and Mrs Rogers and Ralph Rasmus son of Sebeka Minnesota united in marriage at the bride’s parents home on Saturday June 3 with eighteen guests. Rev S T Dunk of Monroe conducted the ceremony. They will reside in Detroit after a brief eastern trip.
More than 200 guests attended an open house at A M Schairer home West Point Neb for the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Schairer solemnized May 17 1883 in Ann Arbor Mich. Guests from Omaha Sioux City Texas and Michigan joined local relatives for toasts reminiscences and a three course dinner.
Saline Mercantile Co lists Best Carhartt overalls S110 at Parsons and numerous farm items for sale. Ads cover pigs for sale by Carl Schmid, Buick and Chevrolet cars with prices, tomato and cabbage plants, seeds, rabbit feed, and garden supplies at Saline Greenhouse. Also notices for livestock wanted, dental services, and Avical Tablets for poultry health.
Saline Mercantile Company shows artificial plate designs and flower plants at the Saline Greenhouse with reduced prices. Various used cars priced low by Wiedman Auto Co and Geo W Cook & Son advertise Chevrolet models, service, and repairs. Gladiola bulbs and farm implements offered by Geo W Cook & Son and Gross Hardware are highlighted with special bulb deals.
Local ads list standard petroleum coke White Star coke Koppers products and Dundon Red Ash among offered fuels. Also notes a notice seeking legal printing help for estate settlements and urges sending notices to The Observer. Reported: William Casey of Denver fined $50 for drunkenness after attempting to kiss Patrolman Magor.
