Mike Strait leads a six man Saline Department of Public Works crew handling street signs sewer cleaning mowing water and sewer systems and general city maintenance. The crew operates year round with winter snow removal and equipment repair while preparing for spring and summer projects.

Five Year Old Ward Injured In Saline Road Accident

Stephen Ward five was struck by a car on US 02 near City Park. Djakangir Moghadam a University of Michigan student drove 35 to 40 mph and rushed the boy to University Hospital for emergency care. Ward remained in satisfactory condition after a night of treatment as parents were located.

Bill May Increase Defense Spending

The Senate Armed Forces Committee backed H. R. 7576, the Durham Civil Defense bill, authorizing up to 25 million dollars yearly with state local matches, 2 million for equipment, 300 thousand for civil schools, and 35 million for radiological monitoring gear. The measure heads to the Senate with Washtenawa County Civil Defense Director Gerald Miller optimistic.

Mike Strait Named Civil Defense Aide

Saline Postmaster Mabel ONeill reports ample supplies of 4 cent stamps and postal cards to meet the new rates effective August 1. Lincoln 4 cent stamps and commemoratives will be available, with the Champion of Liberty Simon Bolivar issue set for July 25 in 4 and 8 cent denominations.

Minor noninjury collision at Harris and Michigan

Saline police investigated a minor accident at the corner of South Harris and Michigan Avenue on Saturday afternoon. Robert Dean Scriver 22 of 1511 Lloyd Road Dundee and Stanley Phillip Kind 16 of 12880 Jordan Road Saline were involved. Kind was ticketed for failure to have his car under control. No serious damage occurred.
