Frank Spindler Wins Air Medal

First Lieutenant Frank A. Spindler of Saline, a B 17 bombardier with 30 combat missions in the Mediterranean, receives an Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters. The 26 year old is a Saline High School and Michigan State Normal College graduate and part of a combined RAF USAF mission that linked American and Soviet air forces in a ten day shuttle visit, marking a historic cooperation and tactical exchanges.

Sheriff Osborn Highlights Duties and Modernization of Dept

Sheriff John L. Osborn spoke on the duties and services of the sheriff's department last Thursday. He noted readiness to respond to emergencies and cooperation with city and state police. He praised Vincent Fox of Saline for enhancing the fingerprint department and thanked Saline voters for support in the recent primary. Leo Jensen became secretary, and Wiedman received thanks for service since Walter Cook's death. Rotarian Joseph Warner of Ypsilanti and Robert Saxton attended.

Election Returns From Last Week Primary Light Across State

In a light statewide vote many incumbents held serve. Vernon Brown beat Eugene Keyes for auditor general by a large margin. Michener remains strong as Ross trails. Higgins faced no opposition for State Senator. Warner defeated Noll for representative in the district. In county races, Rae defeated Rapp for prosecuting attorney. Sheriff Osborn toppled Gaston. Democrats nominate Masten for District 1, Hartley for District 2. Redmond Burr to challenge Michener for Congress.

Merchants win close game in Adrian Sunday

Saline Merchants defeated Jenkins' All-Stars 7 6 after a tight nine innings at Adrian. Frey, Socks and Gall fueled late scoring including Gall's first homer of the season. Crittenden drew a walk and Frey scored on a late hit as Saline captured the 7 6 win. Next up is Detroit's Tigers connection led by Billy Rogell. game at 2 45.

Thomas Joseph E. longtime Saline resident dies at Dearborn veterans hospital

Joseph E. Thomas a former Ann Arbor resident and WWI veteran died Tuesday at Dearborn Veterans Hospital. He was born June 14 1896 in Keystone Indiana and leaves a wife Helen B. Thomas three sons Cpl Robert H. Thomas Joseph E. Thomas Jr and Jimmie four daughters Mrs W T Skin ley Mary Beverly Ann and Dona Sue one brother Ernest Thomas and two sisters Mrs Clara Hutson and Mrs Ben Haines. Funeral at 2 pm Friday at the Methodist Church with Rev Fred A Lendiuwm officiating. Burial Oakwood Cemetery with viewing at Lockwood funeral home through Friday noon.

Community Picnic Draws Saline Residents to Park

About two hundred attended the Sunday afternoon event sponsored by the Saline Community Council at the city park. A noon potluck dinner was served while the committee provided coffee and iced tea. Mr. Jakad led recreation with games for all ages and Burkhart store along with Saline Theater donated prizes for contests.
