The third auction sold over 45000.00 in bond value while volunteers praised Auctioneer Guy Thompson and the committee for their work amid a lack of promised entertainment from the Naval Reserve Band.

A fire of undetermined origin likely caused by combustion leveled three large barns on Alfred Hertler’s Pittsfield township farm on Monday afternoon. Firefighters arrived at 3 pm, fought until 6 pm, then returned at 7 pm as embers rekindled. The blaze ruined hay, machinery, and equipment. 12 hogs were destroyed and some chickens burned. House and adjoining buildings were saved.

Matilda Mummery Rites Held In Ann Arbor
Funeral services for Mrs. Matilda Blaess Mummery were conducted Sunday in Ann Arbor. She died suddenly at 63 at her brother Charles Blaess’s home in Clinton Wisconsin. She had lived with Charles for seven years and was the daughter of the late Albert and Mary Blaess of Lodi township. A former teacher and physician wife, she had served in Saline and Ann Arbor schools. Interment followed at Forest Hill Cemetery. She is survived by brothers Charles and Max of Ann Arbor, sons Glenn of Ann Arbor and Sam in Fresno California, and three grandchildren Jerry Judy and Ann.

Daniel I Klein 86 died Tuesday night July 4 at the home of his son Oscar in Saline township after a long illness. Born November 30 1857 in Ontario Canada he moved to the area in 84 years ago and farmed his life. Survived by wife Mary Feldkamp son Oscar daughter Mrs Ernest Luckhardt 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral 2 PM Friday at Lockwood funeral home with Rev C A Haneberg officiating. Burial Oakwood cemetery.
