Saline Teens Form New Club Under Recreation Plan

Saline parents reorganized the former Teen Canteen into a New Club for teens, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club and the Recreation Commission. Gerald Coe will represent the commission. four students from grades 10 to 12 will elect committee members. Adults will advise as meetings run Fridays 7 30 to 11 p.m. through August 17.

State Highway Department schedules a public hearing July 16 in the Livingston County Building Howell on a 20.1 mile Detroit Muskegon expressway segment with an estimated cost of 12 million dollars. Manchester seeks ruling on second justice of peace request

Manchester hosts annual Optimist Club and Jaycees chicken broil drawing 3000 to 4000 guests from southern Michigan and border states. The event features 100 hosts and 100 chefs with 1000 chicken halves broiled on long pits, menu includes cabbage slaw, buns and chips. Tickets are $1.50 for adults, $1.00 for children with take out options.

Saline City Council weighs charter interpretation on justice of the peace

The Saline City Council debated Section 15 of the City Charter at Monday’s meeting. Allan Grossman urged a second justice of the peace, while City Attorney Roesch urged AG opinion. Council postponed action until the attorney general’s view is obtained. The panel approved curb and gutter work bond on Monroe Street and a $17 500 building permit for a post office annex. They also reviewed a Rolling Hills subdivision permit and Jerome Building Company’s finances with Herbert Cherries presenting.

Nathanson Joins Saline Recreation Staff

Jim Nathanson a junior in the U of M Law School is added to the Saline summer recreation staff. He comes from Toledo Ohio where he directed YMCA swimming and has arts and crafts experience. The program reports growing participation with swimming drawing the largest crowds and volunteers aiding under Mrs Sue Bottoms and Nathanson. Weather permitting the summer is expected to be a fun season.

Ireland Infant Dies Saturday

Julie Ann Ireland infant daughter of Earl and Shirley Ireland of 100 South Lewis St Saline died Saturday evening July 5 at St Joseph Mercy Hospital Ann Arbor. Born April 8 1958 in Ann Arbor she is survived by parents maternal grandparents Sanford Kind of Saline and paternal grandmother Mrs Frank Liedeke of Pontiac. Funeral services were held at 4 p m Tuesday at Lockwood Funeral Home Rev Robert Richards officiating. Burial is in Oakwood Cemetery.

Manchester Boy Wins Dancer’s Penny Contest

Glen Mann of Austin Road Manchester won the Dancer’s Guess the Pennies in the Shoe contest. He guessed 1250 pennies, only eleven away from the actual 1239.
