A blaze at 3 am destroyed four Saline businesses and damaged a fifth, while prompting a nationwide search for Barbara Gibson and her three children. The Gibsons had left for the West before the fire. The rubble was cleared and the site rebuilt by May into a one story modern building housing Wight Cleaners and George's Bar. The report also notes reemployment rights under the Universal Military Training and Service Act and a milk and dairy consumption statistic for the average person.
The U S Department of Labor Bureau of Veterans Reemployment Rights stressed that reemployment rights do not expire for ex servicemen after a regional checkup showed confusion. Frederick G Beattie, regional director for Ohio and Michigan, said every man leaving the armed forces for civilian life has reemployment rights if he was employed prior to service.
