Sixty Years of Forestry in the United States

Franklin B. Hough, first U.S. forest agent, is honored as the 60th anniversary of modern forestry. The piece traces Hough’s career, his 1876 forestry role, the rise of the U.S. forest policy, and the American Tree association’s 43rd edition of Forestry Primer dedicated to him. It notes the CCC, reforestation efforts, New York’s forest commission, and Pack’s call for a forestry centennial in 1976.
