State Police Report On 57 Activities
The Michigan State Police closed the year with a 1957 goal reached a 10 percent drop in traffic fatalities. 1,545 killed a 11.6 percent reduction from 1,747 in 1956. 59,500 injured and 192,500 accidents down 2.7 and 2.8 percent. Police credit better enforcement tighter licenses media safety and driver awareness. Travel rose 2.5 percent to 29 billion miles. Registrations up 3 percent to 3,272,000 and drivers to 3,725,000. Traffic arrests rose 22 percent to 270,013 plus 25 percent more other offenses. Training added 166 graduates for 1,155 total staff. New posts at Ithaca Newaygo Munising to 54. A skin diving squad trained 16 officers aiding evidence and drowning recoveries. The force partnered with the state health department physicians and hospitals to improve safety.

Milan Youths Escape Injury In Ice Crash
George Creswell 24 and his brother Carl of Milan escaped serious injury Saturday when their 1956 Oldsmobile struck ice on the Milan Saline Road and overturned into a ditch. The driver complained of back pain and both youths were taken to St Joseph's Hospital in Ann Arbor for observation. The car was to Milan. Sallee Haswell returns home from Olivet College for the holidays.
