Saline bands to perform at District Festival in Plymouth

Saline will be the only community with three bands at the District Band and Orchestra Festival in Plymouth this Saturday February 23. The Saline High School band and two Saline Junior High bands will participate with all Class C district schools. Junior band leaves Saline at 6 a.m. for forenoon demonstrations. Senior band departs at 6 p.m. for the evening program. Band director is Arthur Katterjohn.

New Episcopal Mission Opens Saline Milan Service Time

The Saline Milan area gains an Episcopal mission now meeting in Saline Savings Bank board room. Beginning Sunday February 24 the service is at 11 a.m. with Morning Prayer. A church school for children will also meet at 11.

Twenty two Republican voters met at Saline Township Hall to nominate a full slate for township offices led by E Ellsworth Lindsley for a 13th year. Other candidates include Raymond Streiter Albert Bredernitz Bruno Papsdorf Robert Bohnett Micah Robison John Kohler Duncan Robison Walter Graf Arthur Wiedameyer Elmer Glatz and Albert Gall. Democrats did not attend the 2 PM caucus and no opposition was filed for the April 1 election.

Pittsfield Board Approves 87 Acre Rezoning to Industrial

The Pittsfield Township Board voted unanimously to rezone 87 acres from agricultural to industrial to allow Hoover Ball & Bearing Co to begin construction of a $1.5 million 200000 square foot factory on the west side of South State Road near Payeur Road three miles north of Saline. The present Hoover site at 326 E. Hoover, Ann Arbor will be sold to the University of Michigan with occupancy planned in March 1958. The board also considered a 28 acre Rockcrete Products precast concrete plant on US 23 Carpenter Road. A meeting with zoning officials and executives is planned for February 28 at the township hall.

Final March of Dimes report totals for Saline and county

Final report shows Saline contributions totaling 2852.00 and Wash Tenaw County over 14000 beyond the 46800 goal. County chairwoman Mrs. Clarence Markeson notes 61042 collected to date, with Ann Arbor 28552 and Ypsilanti 7912 among communities and rural townships distributing funds across many categories.

FFA Group Wins Awards at Dexter Parliamentary Contest

Milan FFA group finished third in a seven-school parliamentary procedure contest held in Dexter. Manchester took first, Chelsea second, Milan earned the silver award. Judges included Mel Shepphard, elementary principal and former ag teacher, while Milan members Larry Thompson Peter Spike Richard Schmenk Steve Gruden Tom Simpkins Joe Latoski and Armando Galanti competed.

Grace E. Wilson Dies in Washington at 84

Grace Ellen Wilson 84 widow of Sim R. Wilson pioneer Michigan newspaperman died Thursday February 14 at Bethany Home Everett Washington. Born July 1 1873 in Janesville Wisconsin she moved to Michigan as a child and became personal secretary to W H White of White Lumber Company Boyne City Michigan.

All-Star Michigan Athletes to Play Saline Charity Game

A dozen University of Michigan athletes will join Saline Merchants for a charity basketball game next Sunday at Saline High School. The Ann Arbor All-Stars and Saline squad clash to raise funds for Saline's eight week summer recreation program for children with a full-time director. Chase Heads Red Cross Campaign In 1957 Ann Arbor Drive

Leonard J. Chase of Ann Arbor accepts the Chairmanship of the 1957 Red Cross Campaign for Members and Funds. The drive will fund services for armed forces disaster flood and first aid with campaigns in Milan Dexter Whitmore Lake Dixboro and several townships. Chase is a longtime civic leader and lives at 169 Barton Drive.
