A late night scene in a newspaper office draws a visitor seeking a report on current events. They discuss intolerance, minority rights, Saudi airfield policies, and American Indians, while the staff weighs editorial decisions amid a snowbound vigil.
The first Band Bounce of the season is set for Saturday 8 to 11 p.m. in the High School gym. The Saline School Dance Band will headline with soloist Pat McDougall and additional soloists Pat Johnson Bill Austin Charlotte Toth Joan Austin Alice Sheehan Sallie Stimpson. Band members include Charlotte Toth Nancy Finkbeiner Joan Austin Magdalene Raus Sarah Woods Betsy Wright Saxophone Bill Austin John LaRue Don Leidheiser trombones Pat Johnson Mike Bixby Karen Leidheiser Eddie Laudon trumpets Sall Stimpson piano Lanny Robbins string bass Jian Losee and Dean Schlief. Proceeds support the Bands Annual Spring Tour in April.
Plans are underway for the Annual Father and Son Banquet to be held in the Federated Church Dining Room on Thursday evening February 28. Dwight Reynolds chairs the program with Elmer Houghton William Bailey and Kenneth Youngs on the committee. The meal will be served by the Ladies Aid Society. Plans from yesterday’s meeting will be announced next week after committee appointments are finalized.
The Child Study Club will convene Tuesday February 19 at 8 p m at Dwight Reynolds residence 5988 Lohr Road instead of Basil Badour home. The program features the John Schilds showing Alaska scenes based on their recent North American trip.
The Salirie Brownie Troop led by Mrs Bliss Charles and Mrs Willard Wedemayer held an investiture service February 1 from 7 to 8 p m in the elementary school's all purpose room. Fifty five people attended including families third grade teacher Mrs Tuttle, Farmer Scout leader, and Mrs Lang. Color bearers were Janis Anderson and Karen Siemson with Susie Deckert and Judy Vanater as color guards. The ceremony opened with the flag and the pledges followed by each girl reciting.
Fifteen year old Joseph M. Shock died from neck and back injuries after being struck by a car driven by Walter W. Wright near Five Points on E. Michigan Avenue. His cousin David Kem, slightly bruised, escaped with minor injuries as the car skidded over 200 feet. Wright, and questions about vehicle registration, faced county jail as investigations continued. Funeral services were held at Geer Funeral Home and Arborcrest Cemetery burial planned in Ann Arbor.
The Pittsfield Township Zoning Board unanimously recommended industrial zoning for Hoover Ball and Bearing Company's proposed 1.5 million dollar installation three miles north of Saline on an 80 acre site near Payeur Road. Filings show ties to Ehman Arnet and Signor, with health and water concerns noted but no waste plan agreed. The plan awaits state health board approval and county board consideration.
Arthiy A Sinclair a noted chalk artist and lecturer will be guest speaker at the Father and Son Banquet at Saline Methodist Church on Thursday February 21 at 7 45 p m. He has spent twenty years in chalk talks for thousands and works summers as a camp naturalist. Randall Coates serves as toastmaster and Robert Moon leads singing. Church mothers handle the banquet with daughters serving and there will be recognition of the oldest and youngest father and the father with the most sons present.
The Goodwill pickup truck will visit Saline Friday February 22 for its periodic donation collection from residents. Call Mrs. Vera Burkhart to arrange pickup. Harold H. McKinnon released 1956 earnings showing wages paid to the physically handicapped and savings to the public, with sales and sub-contract incomes breaking records for Detroit Goodwill Industries.
Two tenth grade Saline High students Anny Robbins and Alice Sheehan were added to the honor roll after omissions in last week's list. The corrections appear in the Saline High School announcements.
