Bar Cake and Fruit Steeped Dessert Recipe Card

A community recipe collection lists a bar cake and a steamed fruit cake mix. The first uses suet breadcrumbs sugar figs cinnamon milk lemon juice eggs and cream with a cocoa coffee icing. The second blends cocoa coffee sugar butter egg yolk sour milk baking powder and flour with vanilla and a soda note for a moist cake.

Nora the railway station at Ridge Road remembered

John Gooding shares memories of Nora a former railway station freight office and store west of the Ann Arbor crossing to York Baptist church. The building on the north side of the road began about 58 years ago and was run by A J Rainey with Bred Salisbury among its early workers.

Scouts Hold District Roundup Amid Cold Weather

Despite stormy weather all day about one hundred Scouts leaders parents and Rotarians gathered at the auditorium for a district roundup. The event featured community singing led by Edward F. Henne calisthenics by Milan Scouts demonstration of first aid and prone pressure resuscitation.

Fine Weather Favors Herman Heininger

On Friday February 7 Herman Heininger hosted the McCormick Deering Day at his West Michigan avenue business. More than 400 attended for a noon hot lunch and an afternoon program with music from Lansing performers. George Miller of Jackson and a Detroit Firestone representative spoke, four power farming films were shown, and guests traveled as far as Detroit.

Clarence Fritz Leads Local Bowlers In Biweekly Meet

Clarence Fritz dominated bowling with a 222 high single and 532 high total on Monday February 10. In Friday night action Ypsi visited Saline. Saline swept two games, but Ypsi claimed the overall win with Jay Harmon posting a 227 high single and Pierson achieving 546 for high total.
