Annual Meeting of Saline Mercantile Company

The Saline Mercantile Co held its annual meeting at the opera house with large attendance. Saline Township High In Judging Contests at College

Ernest Girbach of Saline township placed high in the farmers judging contest at State College during Farmers Week. He finished sixth among 54 contestants, tied for first in hog judging, and was part of a five member team with D. McCrone and C. Gilbert. Eighteen counties entered teams. Girbach posted perfect scores in Hampshire sheep Hereford cattle and Chester White hogs.

Health Lectures by Dr Stocking in Washtenaw County

Dr Ruth E Stocking of the Michigan Department of Health will lecture on maternal and child health as part of the Bureau of Child Hygiene and Public Health Nursing. The eight week series begins the week of March 9 with sessions at Pittsfield Union Grange hall Saline Valley Farms and the home of Mrs Walter Gordon plus Bridgewater town hall on specified dates and times.

Alma to Toledo pipeline brings first oil to Toledo

Oil likely flowed through Washtenaw county two days ago on the Alma to Toledo pipeline. The 140 mile line, eight inches, took six days to fill with 45 000 gallons before reaching Toledo. First oil pumped in at Alma last Saturday. line runs across western Washtenaw with buried sections limited by frozen ground. Jointly owned by Simrall Pipeline Co and Standard Oil Co of Ohio, the project employs about 250 workers and aims to boost central Michigan oil to Ohio markets.

Community Activity Program Expands With Growing Participation

The weekly program at the school attracts about 300 registrations last week up from 178. Dancing classes draw many, with space added for extra participants. Leaders include Mrs Spangler Mrs Burkhardt Mrs Halsey and Miss Haselswerdt, while others supervise sewing craft first aid and auto mechanics amid chorus and drama groups.
