Freedom Township crash injures two in morning collision

Two people were hurt in a two car crash in Freedom Township at 8 45 a m. Fred G Wiedmayer 76 of 9484 Pleasant Lake Rd Freedom Township was in serious but not critical condition at St Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was driving a pickup that began a left turn into a car driven by Dorothy P Branstetter 22 of Chelsea on Pleasant Lake Rd near Steinbach Rd. Visibility was poor. Branstetter had mouth and knee injuries while Wiedmayer suffered fractured ribs internal injuries and lacerations. Both were transported to St Joseph Mercy Hospital.

Whitmore Lake student chosen for Austria exchange program

James Gleason of Whitmore Lake is selected as Washtenaw County’s first exchange student to join the International Farm Youth Exchange Program. He leaves in June for Austria and expects to return in November 1958. A senior in Agricultural Economics at Michigan State University, Gleason led the Washtenaw County 4-H Council and served as 4-H agent in 1956.

Continuous Observer subscriber marks 38 years in Saline

A. C. Lange told the editor he has never missed an issue since moving to Saline 38 years ago and has been a Detroit News subscriber since 1909. The note ends with appreciation for loyal readers and a pledge to keep delivering a newspaper they can be proud of.

City Employees Changing 300 Water Meters

Saline city workers will replace over 300 water meters in a three week period under D P W superintendent Mike Strait. Meters over 4000 gallons in long service will be swapped and many show rust or improper function. All meters will be sealed for the first time as iron removal loosens years of buildup.

Miss Donna Wahl was a guest of Sally Cook at Michigan State University in East Lansing over the weekend. Wahl will return to the University of Michigan for the second semester this week. Sally Stimpson was home from Michigan State at Lansing for the mid semester vacation this past week. Mr and Mrs Jacob Marion and Mr and Mrs William Delcher have returned home from a Florida vacation.

Car rear-ends near Michigan and Monroe Street in Saline

James Gleason of Whitmore Lake waited to turn left on Michigan Avenue when his car was struck from behind by a pickup driven by Richard McNutt. Rex Gleason and Jack Taylor were passengers. no serious injuries reported. Gleason, an exchange student bound for Austria, and others survived the afternoon collision.

Amelia Hummel Injured In Car Accident Here

Saline Police reported a January 31 collision on Michigan avenue and Whitlock street. A 1957 Ford sedan driven by Hugh F. McCoy Jr. struck a second car, injuring Amelia Hummel, 63, a housewife, who was treated for neck and shoulder injuries. vehicle damage was estimated at $300. The other driver was Theodore Hummel.

Paul E. Taylor Herd Attains Top Record For Production

The purebred Ayrshire dairy of Paul E. Taylor of Saline Michigan earned top recognition for outstanding production during a recent month. The herd averaged 1003 pounds of milk at 4.2 percent and 42 pounds of butterfat for the month, ranking among the nation's top Ayrshire herds. Miss Janice Scott of Port Huron was a guest of Donna Mae Wahl last week.

Saline Chamber Urges Open Meeting on Industry Prospectus

The Saline Chamber of Commerce invites all residents to an open meeting tonight at 8 p m at the American Legion Home. Vincent Madison Detroit Edison development director will discuss creating an area prospectus to promote Saline and nearby regions for industry.

Troop 46 Saline Scouts Set Busy February Schedule

Troop 46 Saline Boy Scouts announce a February full of events led by scoutmaster Mike Strait. A Board of Review on February 6, Scout Sunday at St Pauls Church on February 9, Court of Honor February 13, a city hike February 15 for emergency messenger drills, a swimming trip February 18 at the Ann Arbor YMCA, a toy drive February 20 for shut ins and State Hospital, and a talk by James Lowe of Dundee February 27 on Scouting. February is Boy Scout Month.

Car Crash Near Saline Causes Minor Injuries

Mrs. Donald McKay and her mother Kyve Nordeen of Milwaukee escaped serious harm after their 1957 Chevrolet skidded on a curve four miles east of Saline and crashed into a concrete bridge. Fire began in the engine but Saline Fire Department arrived too late to save the vehicle. Mrs Nordeen sustained a small cut.

Public views sought on Saline zoning ordinance hearing

The elementary school hosts a public hearing Monday at 8 p.m. on a proposed zoning plan for Saline prepared by the Planning and Zoning Commission led by Robert Moon. The plan, tentatively approved January 20, includes setbacks for industry and bans new homes in industrial zones.

March Of Dimes Drive Reaches $2 947 26 In Saline

Saline civic groups and schools raised funds for the March of Dimes with events at the Legion Hall and local businesses. Major totals include $218 from businesses, $105.60 from the Legion dance, $665.82 from the Mothers March and $2,947.26 overall after cannisters and outstanding cards were counted.
