Saline High School hosted a Christmas assembly and Spanish club carols onWednesday evening. The senior class distributed pictures and shared holiday cheer, while the school band performed Christmas pieces including LeRoy Anderson’s Fantasy. A carol in Spanish was sung by three classes.
Local restaurateur Marty Hemenway was injured in a head on crash after a vehicle suddenly pulled in front of him Friday near i1 am. The accident involved an approaching car that struck his vehicle directly, causing injuries.
Ten year old Saline youth wins Grand Champion at Detroit Junior Livestock Show with 230 pound Poland China Ornery. Gary Girbach earns top honor in first showing. animal sold for 1.50 per pound totaling 345 dollars. Gene Girbach follows with Reserve Champion for 205 pound Poland China Princess. sold for .50 per pound totaling 102 dollars.
The Legion Post hosts a gala Christmas party on a Monday night with Commander and Mrs. Harvey Kluwe as hosts. Gift exchange featured. guests included Terry Klein, Keith Kammett, T. J. The Saline Citizens Committee hires Rotag Marston Mazey Sachs and OConnell of Detroit to investigate the December 3 recount of the November 4 City Council election. Former candidate Jackson T Bennett warned of court action before the next council meeting on January 5. J C Little, another defeated candidate, accused older council members of domination to deter younger members.
An anonymous Saline area bank distributes Christmas aid by sending checks to pastors of 14 churches for tal distribution to needy congregants. The bank notes it previously gave gifts to customers and decoration funds but now directs funds to pastors for local distribution.
Sallie Haswell of Saline performs in Olivet College Christmas Concert with a 30 voice choral ensemble at Olivet Congregational Church. The program includes Purcell Christmas Anthem Amahl and the Night Visitors Ave Maria and Britten A Ceremony of Carols. Sallie is 19 and a Saline High School graduate.
Kiwanis Club members held a relaxed Monday night gathering featuring group singing of Christmas carols. President Bob Harrison noted the meeting was light on business and did not cover many official matters.
