Detroit Edison seeks court approved tax refund and rate cut

The Detroit Edison Company filed with Ingham County Circuit Court proposing a $16,450,000 tax refund and a $3,000,000 annual rate reduction effective 1946. A trustee would issue over 1,000,000 checks to all customers, requiring review of more than 12,000,000 bills. Refunds average about 9 percent of net bills for 1944–45. the rate cut follows decades of prior reductions.

Christmas Activities Highlight Pittsfield Village PTAs

The Parent-Teacher Association meets December 1 at 8 p m in school 2 planning a special Xmas program with Girl Scouts. Mrs Ralph Lewis organizes a group of children to sing carols in Pittsfield Village and East Ann Arbor on Christmas Eve from 7 to 9 p m. Rehearsals are at the Service Center Wednesdays and Fridays 4 to 5 pm until Christmas. A Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony occurred Friday at 7 pm in Pittsfield Village in front of School 2 with music and carol singing. The community Christmas party is set for Saturday December 22 at 7 pm in School 2 with special Christmas music and children's carols.

Chief of Police Bert Gillen and the United States Secret Service warn Detroit area residents to guard against forged and stolen checks during the pre Holiday season. Do not endorse without presence or cash at the issuing place and keep mail in a locked deep box. Report address changes and use proper ID when cashing checks. Notify issuer if checks are late.

Saline Public School rated by U M Bureau visitor

Director George N. Carrothers of the University Bureau of Cooperation with Educational Institutions approved Saline School for two year accreditation and praised teaching, citizenship, and classwork. He commended orderly study halls, prepared science lessons, and pupil cooperation during the visit on December 13.

Wedding at Martha Mary Chapel in Macon

Miss Harriet Jean Hagans wed Robert E. Lambarth in a candlelit 8 p.m. ceremony on December 14 at Martha Mary Chapel. The bride wore a satin bodice gown with a net skirt and carried white roses. the couple will reside at the Emanuel Lambarth farm in Lodi after a trip to the South.

Woman s Club Meets At Fesdick Home

The Saime Wormer chapter holds its regular meeting at the Fesdick home on Tuesday afternoon December Li. J N Lewis presided. Mrs Lasell Dickinson of the Michigan State Federation urged clubs to cooperate in the drive. Tea followed with Mrs Lewis and Mrs Luther Briggs pouring. A white gifts collection benefited the Michigan Children s Aid at St Joseph. Next meeting set for January 8 at Mrs Anderson s home.

Elmer Alber Dies After Brief Illness

Elmer Alber age 45 and lifelong Saline township resident died Monday in St Josephs hospital after a short illness. Born March 3, 1900 he was the son of Michael and Katherine Alber. Survived by two sisters Mrs Joseph Smith Ann Arbor township and Mrs Rueben Hartman Ann Arbor and four brothers Oscar Dixboro Harold Lodi township Edward Chicago and Arthur Freedom township. Private funeral services were held at Lockwood Funeral Home at 2:30 PM with Rev C H Wittbracht officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.

The Saline Valley Farms seven ty employees held their thirteenth annual Christmas party on Monday December 17 at the community house. The event included a turkey dinner Santa Claus a Christmas story and music.
