Agriculture Men Of Southern District Gather For 1939 40 Year Opening

A. Jewell hosted the Smith Hughes agriculture men of southeastern Michigan at Saline high school. Rain reduced attendance but spirited members prepared for new faces and state funds for F F A district programs. The Washtenaw County FairAug 28 toSept 1will devote the 4-H building to F F A as exhibitors plan larger displays with premiums from 25 cents to 10 dollars.

The Hardy family faces disgrace as Judge Hardy is swindled out of his savings. Andy Hardy stars in Adrift in Tahiti at Carvel High with a new drama teacher ahead of the Saline Theatre run. Wings of the Navy at the local screen, plus The Lady from Kentucky with George Raft and Ellen Drew on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Thomas I Ludwig dies after yearlong illness

Thomas I Ludwig of 1605 Judd Road York township died Monday night at home after a yearlong illness. Born November 11, 1848 in Fremont Ohio he moved from Detroit to York township in 1937. He held patents on farm implements. Survived by three daughters Bessie Shull Flora Thomas and Annette Shibly and siblings. Services and interment were in Fremont.

Improvements at York Mills and area updates 1890

The York Mills run by G B Mason receives a new flume penstock shafting and bolting upgrades boosting efficiency. A four stage roller and stone flour process is used with purifier and centrifuge for refined product. Also noted are mill boiler upgrades at Clinton woolen mill and local events across Washtenaw including picnics weddings and fairs.

Unusual Rotary Club program demonstrates micro-projector

Prof R D Gross of Delaware Ohio showcased the micro-projector at the Rotary meeting on August 10. The device magnifies microscope images onto a screen and revealed mosquitoes vinegar eels bacteria and leaves and frog eyes illustrating classroom uses. Dr J B Wallace hosted his Greensburg Pennsylvania brother C Wallace as a guest at the event.
