Junior Red Cross Delegates Selected

Marilyn Tobiass of Saline and Jackie Warren of Ann Arbor are chosen to represent Washtenaw County at the Junior Red Cross leadership training center in Williams Bay Wisconsin August 13 to 23. They join about 100 middle west youths to learn leadership through Red Cross philosophy, safety, and international activities. Both 15, eleventh graders, will assist in guiding local Red Cross programs this fall.

Sidewalk Repairs Delayed For Saline Barging Festival

Sidewalk work on West Michigan Avenue stalls until after Saline's Barging Festival August 30 and 31. Merchants plan to move merchandise onto the sidewalk during the event while repairs to the sagging walk in the 100 block include lowering the sidewalk installing new curbs and filling coal bins under the walk.

Visel Family Reunion at Delhi Park Highlights

The Visel Reunion took place Sunday at Delhi Park with a pot luck dinner for about 100 attendees. Executive leaders Mrs Kenneth Taylor served as president and Miss Frances Visel as secretary, and afternoon entertainment was planned. Mr and Mrs Perry Kightlinger and family returned from a week in St Louis.

Injured in Car Crashes in Willis and Milan Areas

Two serious crashes injure Mr. and Mrs. John R. Gault and Mr. William Brabant at the Saline-Milan and Stony Creek intersection. Others, including J. H. Swayze and James Geehan, sustain injuries as cars collide. officers cite stopping errors and right of way rules. Additional weekend crashes injure Joyce Egbert, Causie Burroughs, and David Meinzinger while Ardis Koskela is treated for bicycle injuries.

Saline Steer Club Mid-Summer Tour Honors Grooming

The Saline Steer Club held a noon August 8 tour at Saline Park with a pot-luck dinner for members parents and sponsors. The Saline Chamber of Commerce approved a two day sidewalk sale with banners reading SALINE SIDEWALK SALE. Merchants will display and move merchandise onto the sidewalk in front of their shops, with indoor sales possible if it rains.

Faust Reunion at Port Huron Draws 75 Attendees

Faust family reunion held Sunday in Port Huron with 75 members and guests attending. The youngest present was 1.5 months old and the oldest was 86 year old Arthur Faust. A potluck dinner and afternoon entertainment were enjoyed by all.

The JCC's harvest sweet corn on Bob Katz's farm. Since late last week they pick each night to fill wholesale orders from local merchants and buyers in Ann Arbor. Four acres produce an excellent crop, praised by all who have tasted it.

Saline Man Wins Jaycee Hole in One Contest

Saline resident Art Michaiki won the Ypsilanti Area Junior Chamber of Commerce annual Hole in One Contest at Par 3 Golf Course. His drive stopped 1 foot 10.4 inches from the cup. Fred Cras grove of Ann Arbor took second. Paul Ratkos, Mike Ulvysherr, and others placed third to sixth. Fifteen runners-up earned prizes as proceeds support community activities.

New Tile Co. Opens in Saline by Sutton

Sutton Tile Co. opens in Saline at 153 E Bennett St with Rolland Sutton owner. Sutton, a five year Saline resident and former Air Force signal engine flight pilot, started tile work in 1934 and will install clay tile marble slate and other stone products.

Saline High Student Mark Delay to Graduate Driver Training Institute

Mark Delay of Saline High will graduate from the 29th Driver Training Institute in Michigan this Friday August 16. The two week course, funded by Auto Club and run by the University of Michigan with public instruction authorities, trains teachers to teach driver education and behind the wheel methods for high school students at 75 Michigan schools.
