Contest To Boost Food Open To County's Youth
Washtenaw county youths under 20 may join a $6 000 wartime food production and marketing contest run by the National Junior Vegetable Growers Association. Harold S Osler, county agent in Ann Arbor, handles registration and details. The program aims to raise production and teach marketing efficiency to help wartime labor shortages and move food quickly to the right place. Winners receive a $560 national award a $200 central states prize ten $100 regional awards two $25 war bonds and more from a sponsor food chain. Entries judged on five unit extension course grades and a project report this fall. Registration must be completed within two weeks and sent to Hast Lansing Extension Service.

The ration board meets Wednesday 1 to 5 and 7 30 to 9 00 and Friday 9 30 to 11. The shift from Thursday to Friday follows closures of business Thursday afternoons. An upcoming spring summer canning ration remains undisclosed. Pineapple canning may receive sugar at one pound per four quarts. Fuel oil lines offer rationing for brooders. Mrs Christine Klumpp aged 67 of Saline died after a long illness. Born February 10 1876 in Bridgewater township she lived in Saline 36 years. Survived by daughter Mrs John H Caster and granddaughter Mary Susan Caster both of Ann Arbor two sisters and one brother. Funeral at Trinity Evangelical church with Rev H L Engel officiating burial in Lodi Plains cemetery.
