The Civil Air Patrol of Michigan held a highly successful maneuver at Capitol City airport in Lansing on Sunday. State squadrons were well represented, with Ypsilanti notably absent, and attendees traveled by aircraft, train, bus, and car.
Rotary Club met at The Tavern last Thursday noon to view Farming for Victory by Sinclair Refining Company detailing tractor care with voiced explanations. Two newsreels covered Churchill and North Africa to South America, followed by birthdays for Herman Heininger present and A. C. Lange absent. Visitors included Joe Hammer Ray R. Barth W. Clark Trow from Ann Arbor Hughes Holland Herbert Fry and F. E. Ross of Milan.
William L. Westphal died at his Lansing home Sunday afternoon after moving there last fall. Born March 8, 1868 in Bridgewater township, he lived in the area 23 years and sold real estate most of that time. Survived by two sons, a brother, a sister, and four grandchildren. Private funeral held at Lockwood and interment in Oakwood cemetery.
Edward F. Bixby aged 80, a former Saline resident who helped run York Mills with his father, died at his Detroit home last Wednesday night. Survived by son Lincoln Detroit daughter Thelma Van Tuyl Dearborn brother Dr. Roy Bixby Saline and sister Mrs Siebe Baker Grand Rapids. Funeral services were in Detroit Saturday at 1 pm and burial followed at Oakwood cemetery at 3 pm.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Walker express thanks to Alwin Wild and the Saline Fire Department for the assistance provided during their fire incident.
A note of gratitude from Mrs. George Burkhart and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Burkhart thanks the Saline Fire Department and all helpers for assistance during a home fire.
