Soldier Donald Finkbeiner Killed in Action in Germany
Sergeant Donald J. Finkbeiner, of Bridgewater, died in action in Germany on March 21. Born February 4, 1921 in Saline, he lived much of his life in Bridgewater and served with the 119th Engineers, 12th Armored Division, Seventh Army. He had worked as a pattern designer at Buhr Machine and Tool Company and had previous stints at Fort Custer, Camp Campbell, and Camp Barkei. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob A. Finkbeiner.

Marine Master Technical Sergeant Michael Bennett, 27, of the Marine Corps Air Depot Mira Mar California returns from the Pacific where he served as a crew chief with a transport squadron of the Fourth Marine Air Wing. He escaped injuries from bombings in the Marianas. His wife Beulah P. Sanders lives at Warner Road Saline. A brother serves in the Coast Guard. A Mother and Daughter banquet is planned for May 11 at the Federated church basement. Also notes on Washtenaw Historical Society meeting April 13, death of Ralph Mead, and various local club activities and Washtenaw County education updates. Eleanor Wier listed in Indiana University for current semester with 21 percent of enrolled being discharged veterans. Wier studies to be a medical technician at IU Indianapolis.
