Saline residents sponsor a ben eit party at the auditorium tomorrow night to raise funds for veterans injured in the war. The organizers urge everyone to attend and show support for servicemen on their return to America.
Commissioner Charles Figg cites meat shortage driving illegal calf killings under four weeks for sale. Miles A. Nelson reports inspectors uncovered violations of slaughter and sale laws for immature calves and issued warnings against selling calves under four weeks. The department warns prosecutions may follow for feeding unwholesome offal to livestock and clarifies the law targets illegal feeding of putrid or unhealthy meat to animals.
April named for a clothing drive for war relief coordinated by UNRRA and voluntary agencies. The campaign aims to collect 150 million pounds of wearable garments, shoes, blankets and linens. Saline Woman's Club hosts local drop site at Mrs. Howard Clark’s home near the hospital on South Ann Arbor Street.
The next waste paper drive will be on Monday April 30 with grade school children as collectors and the school as headquarters. Proceeds benefit the Wading Pool fund and residents of Saline and vicinity are urged to save paper. call 59 to arrange pickup.

Saline Junior Red Cross reports a busy March sending 65 books 120 bingo prizes 800 decorated napkins and 40 conival hats to Ann Arbor headquarters. Letters from Gerey Jones Hospital Percy Jones General & Convalescent Hospital thank the group noting prizes aid ward entertainments and convalescents in the middle west.
Wallace Watt of the Governor's Youth Guidance Committee will speak at a Saline public meeting at the Bish school on Monday evening April 23. The event invites all parents to hear Watt noted for his work with children and the Boy Scouts and his views on guiding youth to better social adjustment and citizenship. Refreshments will be served.
Saline General Hospital reports Joe Salazar of Milan underwent an appendectomy on Thursday. Ronald Howell of Willis and Kenneth Bartel with Doris Hall of Britton had tonsils removed on Saturday. Mrs Cosmas Nagel and infant daughter returned home on Sunday. Mrs Theodore Adiska and infant son and Mrs Virgil Bryson and daughter returned home on Wednesday of last week. Dale Leonard and wife welcomed a son born Tuesday April 17. Lois Allerdyce of Milan, Shirley Turner of Dexter, Harold Gramer and Edward Cammet had tonsillectomies on Tuesday. Fred Brenson and Wilber Coe remain about the same.
At Saline Rotary Club last Thursday election named Fred C Wiedman as president Sam Lambarth as vice president Leo Jensen secretary and Henry Leutheuser treasurer for a term beginning July 1 New directors include Arthur Weininger Sam W Lambarth Fred Wiedman Edward Redies William Brittain Clarence Haarer and Ken Jeppe sen Guests included Arthur Hagen Dale Hirth and Rev William Bach Burkhardt showed Amazon River country moving pictures The sea elephant fully grown holds 70 gallons of oil.
A veterans transportation group is organized at the request of Col. Philip C. Pack director of veterans affairs Lansing and with the Automobile Club of Michigan. Private car owners will drive veterans to clinics and hospitals for treatment with gasoline provided. Saline volunteers are urged to contact D. T. Leidheiser at 24 Lewis Street Saline.
