Mrs Amanda Walker 69 Dies in Saline After Illness

Mrs Amanda Walker aged 69 died Wednesday night at St Josephs Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor after living in Lodi township she moved to Saline eight years ago born Sept 13 1874 she married Fred Walker March 1 1899 she was a member of St Pauls church and Ladies Aid Society Survived by husband two daughters Edna and Mrs Paul Hieber a son Alfred a brother Henry Goltz a sister Mrs Emma Heintelman and two grandchildren Funeral services 130 pm Saturday at Lockwood funeral home and 2 pm at St Pauls Church with Rev C H Wittbracht officiating interment in Oakwood Cemetery.

Salvage Totals for January and February Reported

John D McGillis of the War Production Board Detroit learns from county salvage chairman G H Gabler the total salvage pickup for January and February includes Metals 2 860 000 pounds Rubber 199 600 pounds Paper 1 588 000 pounds Rags 62 068 pounds and Household fats 47 500 pounds The cry is for more household fats and paper as eight million tons of waste paper will be needed in 1944 to meet military and civilian demands Please save every scrap of paper

Good Friday Organ Recital Opens University Spring Series

Palmer Christian presents a Good Friday organ recital on April 7 at 4 15 pm in Hill Auditorium Ann Arbor kicking off three spring concerts under the University School of Music. The program includes Parsifal selections and the Crucifixion from Dupre Passion Symphony plus Bach Frescobaldi Karg Elert Malling Bossi works. A University String orchestra program follows on April 16 at 8 30 pm in Lydia Mendelssohn Theater and an organ recital by Frieda Opt Holt Vogan in Hill Auditorium on April 23 at 4 15 pm.

Community Night draws 200 attendees with lively dance

Community Night on March 27 started small but grew, with over 200 present. Joe Cook's orchestra played, funds exceeded expenses, and the Sub-debs sold hot dogs. Planning next gathering for April 17.
